Happy New Year!!! (2026)

I went with a leafy/viney sort of thing.
To evoke the vines that grow out of Helen Vaughan's hair in "Helen's Story".
To represent the weird fiction reading rabbit hole I've been on.
I tried tentacles for Cthulhu, and Necronomicon lettering, and the former all sucked, and the latter were all paywalled. So, you all got this instead.
And yes, you can barely make it out, but that's the "I no longer give a fuck" attitude I'm coming at this year with.

Anyhoo!
I said last year....

Well, here we are.
The red-hat animal-monsters got their precious monster overlord.
The death clock is ticking.
We'll see how far along I can go before I get Anne Frank-ed or Navalney-ed.

The animal-monsters are turning on their monster overlord over the burning economy, and delaying release of the Epstein Files.
Pathetic that their faces have to be eaten by the leopard for them to wake from their stupor.
Encouraging that they still can.
There are sill dead-enders that'll go over the cliff for the fucker though.

MAGA is factionalizing over both Trump going senile, and Charlie Kirk being shot.

America is collapsing as a superpower, and maybe it's for the best.

As for being Ann Frank-ed, I've suddenly got twinkles of cautious optimism.

-The 2020's are still sucking pretty fucking hard.
We're half way through 'em, and they're half ruined.
Said this word-for-word last year, and it hasn't changed.
-We've officially put up with Trump for a fucking decade. Even when he was gone for 4 years, he was pulling the strings of the MAGA congress. 😒
-Saw "Superman" and "Fantastic Four: First Steps" at the theaters.
-I turned 50. I'm still processing that shit.
-Ma passed away. 😔
-...and a shitload of other good people (Part 1, 2, 3, 4, 5).
-Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas rolled around.
-Still working on my book. Got more optimism about that now.
All the hard elbow-greasy statue chiseling is paying off.
-AI, AI, AI.
-Tech-bros, tech-bros, tech-bros.
-Affordability, affordability, affordability.

I don't even know what to ask of 2026.
I just don't want to starve or freeze to death.
If doomsday comes, make it quick.
If not, then leave me the Hell alone, whole-damned-world.

Happy New Year!!! (2025)

Went with a circuit pattern to evoke the ansible/churten from the Hainish series.
Ansible = FTL communicator.
Churten = beaming a person or ship through, but it causes weird reality-scrambling side-effects.

Maybe someone fucked up our timeline by churtening.
Sure feels like it.

Happy New Year!!! (2024)

How do you like the logo?
I got playing around with the maker, and that one gave me flashbacks to "Rude Dog and The Dweebs".
Does anyone remember Rude Dog even being a thing?
Probably not!

Anyway!

Now, the list...

-The 2020's are still sucking pretty fucking hard.
-Only saw The Marvels and The Flash at the theaters.
-Still bad family health shit. It just shuffles around to different people is all.
-Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas rolled around.
-One third of this country are Nazis who want an emperor, and the guy they want is a gameshow host and wrestling villain.
-Yeah, they still haven't managed to lock Trump up.
-Seriously, you or I would have been in jail in 5 seconds, but apparently when the person is rich, and used to be president, the judges get all confused, and "this is unprecedented! We don't know what to do!! We don't know what to do!! We have to be careful! Ohh!! *fainting couch*". Nixon would have been in a slammer if Ford didn't pardon him. Lock him the fuck up. It's not complicated at fucking all.
-Yeah, if Trump wins in November, and goes full dictator, everyone with my views will be killed. So that's fun.
-Fuck it. You suck, Trump. You're a failure, and no one ever loved you, and your stinky gross body is falling apart, and everyone laughs at you. Come and get me, you orange shit-gibbon.
-P.S. Rude Dog hates you too.
-Still working on my book. For all the good that does me.
-Ukraine, Ukraine, Ukraine.
-Israel, Israel, Israel.

Come on, 2024.
Give us democracy still existing, and me not dead.
How about that?
Is even that asking too fucking much?
Is that really so much to ask?
Kee-rist.

Happy New Year!!! (2020)

Now, the usual list...

And, Trump has been impeached in the house, but Mitch McConnell is gonna let him go, because he's a demon in a turtle suit.
And, we lost a lot of Star Trek people, including Jack Donner.

And, I'm not gonna hope for 2020 to be any better, cuz it never gets better, and I just keep jinxing myself.

Happy New Year!!! (2019)

Last year, I mumbled my excuses for not having the Harry/JS hybrid book done.
Fuck it, it's done when it's done.
I have a final Harry story I want to get done in time for the 30th anniversary.
That, and the 30th anniversary post that'll absorb it, will be the final capper.
I know how I want it all to end now.

And, the outline of my next book is 99.99999999% done.

Now, the usual list...

And, Trump is still being infuriating, and destructive, but his vile little kingdom is crumbling.
So, here's hoping for more of that, and an end to this bullshit.
If he wriggles free of all this, I'll be.....miffed.

So, here's to 2019 being even better.
The movies are looking good, at least.

Happy New Year!!!! (this time for sure)

The anniversary of finishing Jade-Shade was Thursday.
I had my mind on Christmas loot instead.

Yeah, I deliberately slacked off on getting the book compiled.
Broke that new year's resolution.

I fell into an existential crisis over what to do with my life with no more Harry or Jade-Shade, and with neither of them making a living for me.
Toyed with the idea of stand-up comedy, but the bottom rungs of that business are a horror show, and you don't even scrape up rent money.
I don't have to be rich day one, but rent, groceries, and electricity would be nice.

So, I tried coming up with other story ideas.
I actually have a bunch of them, but then it was a nightmare settling on just one, and then it ended up being none of them, cuz right when this year is about to die, I had one that topped all of them.
Glad I waited, instead of diving full throttle into the first thing.
The first couple ideas might have been fun to write, but I'm confident they wouldn't have sold.

So, with this new one, I'm excited about things again, and I might be able to will myself to compile the books. (Harry/Jade-Shade, and all my old rants)
And, I'm not blogging this book, gonna try to get it published.
If that fails, I'll self publish it.
Either way, you'll see it.

Jade-Shade turned 4, and I cut off the anniversaries there.
The Harry books turned 5.
NLHH turned 12!
I turned 42!
I rebooted big summer/winter movies to go by year.
Ghostbsuters 2016 has a comic book sequel, threequel, and an upcoming fourquel.
An animated Ghostbusters from the ghosts's point of view is supposed to come out in 2019, so we should start hearing some things this year.
Seen "The Last Jedi", once so far.
"Ash vs Evil Dead", season 3 doesn't come out til fucking February.
Shmegalamonga turned 9!
Halloween and Christmas aren't going to be big movie news/reviews behemoths anymore.
I came to terms and made peace with the 90's once and for all by doing a megalith recap of them.
Disney bought Fox, so we're gonna get X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Deadpool in the MCU!

Oh, and where 2016 was all our favorite celebs dying, this year, they were all turning out to be pedos, molesters, harassers, homophobic bullies, and rapists.
Yep, Cosby was just the tip of the iceberg.

Part of me is sad, but the bigger part of me is glad to have the lid blown off.

Oh, and Trump is crazy, and morally infuriating, but I'm not scared of him anymore.
I think he's done for.
We'll see where we're at by 2019, I could be wrong, but it feels like his goose is cooked.

Happy New Year!!!! (...I guess)

Yet again, I'll update last year's list...

Finished off Jade-Shade!!
Shorter than I planned, but it ended when it had to.
Jade Shade turned 3.
As did Chokecherry.
Eidolon turned 2.
Dr. Herbert turned 5.
The Harry books turned 4.
Dark Designs turned 8.
NLHH turned 11!
I turned 41!
Big Summer Movies expanded to year round.
Finally saw Ghostbusters 2016. (1st, 2nd, 3rd, digital, blu-ray, comic sequel)
Seen "Rogue One", once so far.
Saw "Ash vs Evil Dead", season 2.
Shmegalamonga turned 8.
And, I covered in there all the depressing shit going on. :-(
I dunno why people are glad this year is coming, things are actually looking to get way worse.
But, hey, will there still be movies in the apocalypse? Then, I'll watch 'em.

And, by finishing off Jade-Shade, I fulfilled last year's resolution.
So, this year's will be to compile everything needed for the printed book, and get that the fuck out the door and done.
Hope I'm not waylaid by unspeakable horrors.

And as is the motto of everyone, fuck you, 2016.

Happy New Year!!!!

Once again, I'll update last year's list...

Got a shitload of Jade-Shade done compared to last year.
Jade-Shade turned 2.
As did Chokecherry.
Eidolon turned 1.
Dr. Herbert turned 4.
The Harry books turned 3.
Dark Designs turned 7.
NLHH turned 10!
I turned 40!
Saw another 8 unique films this summer, 10 trips to the theater overall.
Seen "The Force Awakens", twice so far.
And "Creed", once.
And "Ash vs Evil Dead", is a couple days from it's finale.
And added "Human Centipede 3", to my DVD collection finally.
Shmegalamonga turned 7.
En-Mike-lopedia is over, but I still did Halloween and Christmas.
And, I think the annual calendar recap will be the new En-Mike-lopedia as far as collecting everything in volumes.

So, let's see what 2016 has in store.
A shitload of excellent movies, I know that much.
But who knows what else...

And as with last year, my resolution is to make a bigger dent in the Jade-Shade chapters backlog than the previous year.
Really gotta set aside my podcast addiction, and buckle down on that.

Happy New Year!!!

Let's just update what was on last year's list...

Got some Jade-Shade done, but not as much as I would have liked.
(Although, I've got a huge bunch done that's not ready for posting, so I got work done, anyway).
Jade-Shade turned 1.
As did Chokecherry.
The Harry books turned 2 years old.
Saw 9 unique films, 11 altogether.
Shmegalamonga turned 6.
I turned 39.
I (mostly) completed this year's calender.
I did an early En-Mike-lopedia 4 which will hopefully be the last one.

And, no one died for a change.
...except Robin Williams.

So, let's see what 2015 has in store.
Avengers 2 and Star Wars 7 for sure.
But who knows what else...

Ahhh, there, nailed it this time.
Unlike last year, where I was without internet for a week.

Um, okay, got 5 minutes to recap before the ball drops...

Post-Christmas reviews...

Flicks I've watched (Part 26)

That's it.

And, a lot happened this year.
Jade-Shade was born.
The Harry books turned a year old.
I saw 8 movies at the theater this summer.
Shmegalamonga turned 5.
Krazyfool's Den turned 14.
I turned 38.
I completed my seasons thingy.

And, we lost Digby. :-(

So, let's see what surprises 2014 brings...

New Year's compilation.

It would have been the big "Happy New Year!", post if my internet had been working January first.

And, it woulda looked like this....

Happy New Year!!! Again!!!

Now, let's collect the pre-New Year's (*whispers* play along)...stuff...

There, that essentially reconstitutes the 6 lost days.

Next up, En-Mike-lopedia Volume 2!
(And then, we'll be back on schedule)

Yearbook: 2011, A Look Back.

All righty, let's properly recap this baby...

Part 0: I'm okay with the 10's so far...

Harry Hembock turned 22.

I did the "Krazy for decades", series which expanded into the very thing I'm writing

"The Arab spring".

Charlie Sheen went nuts.

Evil Dead 2 turned 24.

Japan is...well, it's just broken.

Shatner turned 80.

Liz Taylor died.

The stupid meaningless Royal Wedding happened.

Part 1: Jogging My Memory.

We lost Elisabeth Sladen, Jack Kevorkian, "Macho Man",  Randy Savage, and Jeff Conaway.

Osama bin Laden got shot through the eyes.
Good riddance.

Some dipshit Jesus freak got the mainstream media to acknowledge his fevered death-fantasies.

Anthony Wiener is an idiot.

A bunch of decent superhero flicks rolled out.

Human Centipede 2 got banned in the UK.
Tom Six merely put it into the ad campaign without missing a beat.
Magnificent bastard.

My Doctor Herbert segment failed miserably.
It was pulling teeth to get people to play with the idea.
I'll revive it in some other form.
Nothing goes to waste.
Not if I can help it.

Part 2: More.

Arnold crashed and burned his marriage with a homely broad, and a secret 10 year old son.
Tabloid guys promise there's a horde of these eugenic supermen running around.

Casey Anthony was a national story for some reason.
My theory? She was attractive by trailer park standards, and white.
Toss in the dead baby, the perfect corporate-media story.
A teaching moment, don't let it slip by, folks.

We lost Clarence Clemens, Ryan Dunne, and Peter Falk.

Cheerios turned 70.

Shmegalamonga turned 3.

Blago went to jail.
Good, now he's not on my TV anymore.

Part 3: Even More.

Did some overhauling of Shmegalamonga with the whole "Feesh", and "Shrieks", concept.
Yeah, I'm gonna let that quietly die off, I think.
At least it did its job of focalizing my thoughts for awhile, pruned a lot of messy mini-categories, and helped me to figure out what a Shmegalamonga is, thus giving this place an actual theme.
All of which later came together in the FAQ section.

Oprah retired.
Not really, but I can avoid her shitty channel more easily.
Good riddance.
In terms of damage done to our culture, I consider her the equivalent of a war criminal.

Rupert Murdock played his hand as an outright criminal with that whole phone hacking thing.
Haven't heard much more about this in the mainstream press.

Our pain was eased with Fruity Pebbles Treats.

The "elevator guy", scandal rocked the atheist blogosphere.

After 500 years, a year passed on Neptune.

Netflix turned evil.

No more space shuttle.
Don't dream of being an astronaut anymore, kids, settle for shitty rapper, arrogant doctor, or crooked defense attorney.
Or, maybe even shitty politician that takes pictures of his junk.
But basically, aim low, and be shitty, you're stuck on Earth.
It's shitty.

Google + took on Facebook.
Google harassed me endlessly to join.
No, leave me alone.
I SAID LEAVE ME ALONE!!!!

Also, another shitty Transformers movie came out.

Part 4: Still More.

Shrieks and Feesh shrunk down to the tags, Shrieks abandoned.

Got me a cheap junky digital camera.

Rupert Murdoch killed a guy.

Summer was hellish.

Burger King got magic coke machines.

The Norway bomber/shooter.

Amy Winehouse died, you all sat by, and let it happen.

Borders Books died out.

A shitty Smurfs movie came out.

MTV turned 30, no one seemed to care.

I turned 36.

The larger world was in its usual state of mayhem, and ridiculousness.

DADT was repealed.

The Evil Dead remake is back on.
It's sure to be glossy CGI schlock.

People had opinions on the budget shit in Washington as if they had a say in the matter, or something,.

Part 5: Little Bit More

Superheroes became real.

A bunch of horror/sf documentaries were announced.

Freddy vs Jason turned 8.
...which spun off into reviewing the entire Nightmare series, which spun off into doing all horror, which spun off....
Yeah, I'm rethinking the whole blog's mission now....

The Burger King (mascot) got whacked.

Troll 2 suddenly became entertainment.

I reminisced about "Plop!", and "Crazy".

Star Trek turned 45, 9/11 turning 10 stole its thunder.

Found Hyla.

Jim Shooter (I assume)  still doesn't like me.

Hurricane Irene failed to kill me.

Part 6: The Home Stretch

Hyla created "That Galaxy Next Door".

I ranted some more about how everything that ever made me miserable doesn't exist, it's just some ideas some fucking unimaginative morons came up with.
I gotta do this some more, it's fun.

I hit and surpassed 69 followers.

The previously mentioned dipshit Jesus freak with a death wish had another un-pocalypse.
We all laughed and pointed.

Hyla did this.

Andy Rooney died.

I did the aforementioned horror reviews for Halloween.

Kadaffi ate hot lead.

11/11/11 rolled around.

Evil Dead turned 30.

As mentioned, my horror reviews expanded out into an all encompassing beast, starting with Thanksgiving.

Part 7: Die, 2011, die!!

Overhauled Shmegalamonga more with the page-list bar.

I admitted what was going on since December of 2010, I call it "the year of hell", now.

Kim Jung Il croaked.

Sadly, so did Patrice O'Neal, Bill McKinney, Harry Morgan, and Chris Hitchens.

The expanding beast ate Christmas and New Years too.
Possibly the whole blog, we'll just have to see...

Part 7.5: A Review In Review

...which was an update on some things.

...oh, and Steve Jobs died.

So, that was another orbit around the sun for the human species....
See you next orbit.

Bye bye, 00's.

You were one helluva strange decade, my friend.

A decade that came in with 9/11, and went out with Dingoo.

And in between, the TrekBBS years, and the WF years, which were kind of all one thing, and ended with me coming out as a liberal, and an atheist, and ending up despised over there, and it all ending in a car-wreck.

If ya told me 6 years ago, it was gonna turn out like that, I wouldn't have believed it.

And then, the start of the RD.net years, which, this time around, I hope I won't be calling "the RD.net years", nor saying words to the effect of "wow, if you had told me it was all going to end like that...", I hope in 2019, we're still chugging along.

Oh, and also, of course, Shmegalamonga was born, and became 1 year old.

Strange rollercoaster in my internet life, to say the least.

Well, the good movies of the 00's seemed to be better and more numerous than those of the 90's.
I dunno, I just plain didn't like the 90's they didn't agree with me.
What did the 90's have?
Army Of Darkness, T2, Pulp Fiction, and...??

We were treated to George Carlin's last 3 specials, and 3 of his books (Brain Droppings was '97, and "Last Words" just came out posthumously, so, yeah, 3, not 4).

Oh, and of course, geek culture thrived.

The internet, which spread everywhere in the late 90's grew to new heights, both in tech, and cultural effect.

Course....things were politically and economically horrific.....

And, I lost a handful of loved ones...

And our culture lost a lot of good celebrities....

So, there was quite a bit of darkness.

But, by and large, things look hopeful and interesting for the 10's.

I won't miss the big history crap, but there's stuff I'll miss about the 00's.

Enough so, I think I'll have enough to look back on it fondly.
At least in that truncated, hazy, rose-tinted way I look back on the 80's.

Couldn't say that about the 90's.
I kicked that bastard in the tailbone on its way out the door.

Came in with high school, went out with Wal-Mart, just plain disagreeable for me personally.

But, I'm much more ambitious and invigorated by the possibilities of the post-"The God Delusion", post-Dingoo world.

That's going to be a lot more interesting.

IMHO.
