Pop culture updates #9.

Finally a Ghostbusters 4-5 update! And it's.....
*Drumroll*

Basically nothing!!

Yep, Ivan Reitman and Ernie Hudson were at Wizard World Chicago, and when asked about future movies, Ivan said both "You ain't seen nothing yet!", and "WE CAN'T WAIT FOR GB FAN FEST!".

The first quote tells me just about nothing, except that there's something.
And the second line tells me, they are indeed saving any new news for the 35th anniversary spectacular on the Sony lot.
That'll be next June 8th and 9th.
Mark your calendar.

What it REALLY tells me though, is I can stop waiting for every fucking convention, wondering "is this the one? Is this the one? Is this the one?".

Someone could have told us "wait 'til next year, and we'll have something big to announce by then", at fucking Comic-Con.
It wouldn't have killed them.

But there, I can un-clench my bum, and relax now.

And I'll retro-link this to the 34th anniversary post.

43rd birthday loot update part 2.

Took another Bullmoose trip Tuesday, and its taken me this long to binge through everything.
It was this trip...

In a couple weeks, Infinity War comes out.
Gonna have to snag that.
But, I think I'll wait a little longer for when Ash vs Evil Dead 3 and Deadpool 2 come out, then I can scarf 'em all in one trip.

Sooo...

Avengers: Infinity War (2018)

Review here.

I gotta go back to this, I haven't even cracked open the bonus features.
Just watched once.
But, it's my third time counting the theater.

Deadpool 2 (2018)

Review here.

The bonuses are all here.
The joke trailer that came out and played before "Logan", in the theater, the Bob Ross parody trailer, the joke trailer with the incomplete Cable effects, the "Deadpool: 10 years", parody of Marvel's' 10th anniversary, the Celine Dion video, and stills of all the joke poster variations.

The extended edition has some slightly extended scenes, and the baby Hitler after-credits gag that got cut from the theatrical release.

Ash vs Evil Dead (2018)

Review here.

This is what took the longest.
Had to binge the whole show in commentary mode.
Only the Blu-Ray gets the commentaries.

So, that's it.
I've got Solo, and Ant-Man & Wasp, and Incredibles 2 left to go, but that was the last gasp of my birthday cash so this series of posts is done for this year.

"Hoorayyy!!".

Aww, shaddap!

Big 2018 Movies Part 10.

Parts 1-9:
Big summer 2018 movies recap.

On a bored whim, I decided to do a special one, so it's....

Ghostbusters: Crossing over
(Volume 1) (2018)

Previously with this franchise...

I was gonna wait until all 8 issues came out, but fuck it, I wanna talk about it now.
The graphic novels are gonna be split up into two volumes, like "Mass Hysteria", so technically, in issues, volume 1 is out, even if not in collected paperback.

Plot summary-

Holtzmann and Ron Alexander (a character created by the comics based on a young Chevy Chase) reverse engineer the Ghostbusters dimension portal, and make a copy for themselves, but they turn it on at a bad time, and cause the Ghostbusters containment unit to leak ghosts across the multiverse.

The Prime Ghostbusters enlist a crapload of other dimensional Ghostbusters to go forth into the multiverse, and wrangle the ghosts back into the containment unit before it destabilizes, and explodes.

Tiamat (see "Mass Hysteria") intervenes with the portal, and shuffles the Ghostbusters into random teams of six, to sprinkle a little chaos on things, because that's what she does.
So, in reader terms, you get an even mix of Answer The Call, Real, Extreme, Sanctum Of Slime, and Prime Ghostbusters in each group interacting with each other in fun new ways.

This volume leaves off with the first three teams running into powerful ghosts from previous arcs in the IDW comics run.

Rundown-
  • Loving it so far! Even better than GB:101.
  • Loving the plot gimmick of scrambled teams.
  • If you're someone who only watched the movies, they're doing everything to catch you up to speed on the other Busters from the other media. From character pages at the start of each issue, to file folders of each team at the end of each issue, to digital trading cards of every character on Tom Waltz's twitter (which will be in the graphic novel collection).
  • Frustratingly, we JUST get going before we cliff-hang. The really good shit's gonna be in issues 5-8.
  • Issue 5 is out, and we get some juicy stuff...but I can't talk about it until part 2.
  • I REALLY can't wait until issue #6 though!!
  • Yeah, you want sequels to the movies, it's all happening at IDW, they've got this franchise nailed. GB:101 hit it out of the park, and now this one's hitting it out of the park, hitting the last ball, and pushing it even further out into orbit.
  • I just wish I had the next series to look forward to to mention, but they're keeping everything close to their vest this time.

So, as usual, it's good, and I'm happy, and we've got another good GB sequel for the record books.
Just wish I knew what was next...

Anyway, collect those, they're good.
Or...wait all the way to January for the first graphic novel, and who knows when for volume 2.

See you then!

And see you next time in this review series for Venom, and then Aquaman!

Pop culture updates #8.

Updates for the two big franchises that start with "Star".
First...

The Captain for Star Trek series 7 is going to be.....

Picard again!
Yep, series 7 (no title yet) will be 20 years after "Nemesis", and see the return of Patrick Stewart as Jean-Luc Picard.

Excellent.
The TNG/DS9/VOY timeline needed a way better send-off than fucking "Nemesis".
'Bout time they finally fixed that.

Heh, and next year will be the 25 years into the future shown in "All Good Things...".
That was 1994, can you believe it?

And, secondly...

The John Favreau Star Wars streaming series will be set 3 years after Return Of The Jedi, be 10 episodes long, cost 100 million dollars (that's season 6-7 Thrones money!), and be set on Mandalore (where Boba-Fett's suit comes from).

Previously, it was said it was 7 years after Jedi, but Favreau actually said "7 years after the Battle Of Endor", which is easy to mix up with the Battle Of Yavin.
Endor is Jedi, Yavin is Hope, and Empire is 3 years after Hope, and Jedi is 4, so another 3 years after Jedi is 7.
So, he meant Yavin.
No biggie.

Hopefully, there'll be a title soon so I can call it something.

Aaaand, that's those.

43rd birthday loot update part 1.

43rd birthday.

All righty, so took a Bullmoose trip yesterday.
And here we go....

IT (2017)

Review here.

This has been out for a helluva while, but I finally got it.
Damn, it's good.

Black Panther (2018)

Review here.

Got this a little bit late.
In a couple weeks, Infinity War comes out.
Gonna have to snag that.
But, I think I'll wait a little longer for when Ash vs Evil Dead 3 and Deadpool 2 come out, then I can scarf 'em all in one trip.

Anyway, watched this along with "IT", last night.
Gorgeous!

Ready Player One (2018)

Review here.

Haven't spun this one yet.
Dunno if its gonna hold up.
I have friends who despise it.

Daria (1997-2002)

From my second Ant-Man review, 3 whole fucking years ago...

Bull Moose didn't have Daria, even though the site says they have it. )B-(

Yeah, well, now they suddenly had a shitload of them, and for just 15 bucks!!
The sequel/revival is coming, so I grabbed that sucker like a starving hobo to a saltine cracker!

Now I can just binge Daria, Real Ghostbusters, and Ash until my brains ooze out my ears.
It's the way I always wanted to go.
Nobody stop me!

Ghostbuster's Daughter (2018)

By Violet Ramis Steil, daughter of Harold Ramis.

I've heard some stuff leaked out by the press, like he did drugs, and had affairs, and has an illegitimate daughter with somebody.

Doesn't ruin him for me, nobody in Hollywood in the 70's-80's got out pure, especially that SNL/SCTV crowd.

And all the reviews I've seen say you actually just end up loving him even more.
So, I can't wait to crack this baby open.
Been waiting for it to come out for awhile.

And, that's it for now.
I can't buy things that aren't released yet, not without a time machine, so I've got the funds, I just need to drum my fingers while the sun goes up and down.

See you next time!

Big summer 2018 movies recap.

There they are, as usual, in order of goodness.

Previous years...

2013-2014.
2015-2017.

The big 2015-2017 movie recap.

And now, the list...

1. Avengers: Infinity War

Devoured the summer like everyone thought it would.
The Russos say Avengers 4 is even better!
Holy fucking shit!

2. Black Panther

Behind Infinity War by this >< much.

3. Deadpool 2

The most fun one of the big summer superhero movies, for sure.

4. Ash vs Evil Dead (Season 3)

Not as many seasons as I would have wanted, but it's a miracle we got this show at all, so I'm not whining.
Savored every bit of it.
My Halloween Ash marathon will be a fucking beast now.
Thank you, Starz, and Sam Raimi.

5. Ant-Man & The Wasp

Loved it, but in a year with Deadpool 2, and Infinity War, it got buried in the noise.
But even with those to compete with, it beat the first Ant-Man in box-office receipts.
Not too shabby, Marvel.

6. Incredibles 2

Worth the wait.
I resent the wait though.
We didn't need Cars 2 & 3.
We could've had this sooner.

7. Ready Player One

Easter Egg the movie.
We'll be picking this apart with tweezers for decades to come.

8. Solo: A Star Wars Story

Even mediocre Star Wars is pretty goddamned good.
The backlashers can eat my taint.

9. Ghostbusters: Answer The Call:What Dreams May Come

Good pilot for an animated series.
Doesn't look like the rest of the "show", will happen though.
If it is, IDW is hiding it under their hats for some reason.

Again, a good goddamned year.
Nothing I saw was bad.
Just less good than the fucking orgasmic miracle that preceded it.

Winter is just going to be Venom & Aquaman, it seems.
I could have just folded the whole year together.
Eh, but fuck waiting so fucking long.

Anyway, that was summer of 2018.
See you again in October for Venom.
