Yep, title says most of it.
From Dark Horizons.
Heat Vision reports that according to a source familiar with the negotiations, by mid-late August any chance of a partnership between the two studios for the project was “100% dead,” but in the wake of D23 in late August, the 23-year-old actor spent the next few weeks making multiple appeals to both Disney CEO Bob Iger and Sony film chairman Tom Rothman to reach a resolution, using the outpouring of fan support as leverage.
Ultimately they did with a new deal being announced last week which benefitted everyone. Marvel will now produce a third “Spider-Man” for Sony, and for the character to appear in at least one additional Disney-Marvel film. Marvel chief Kevin Feige will run creative point and Disney will earn 25% of net gross on a third “Spider-Man” along with financing 25% of the budget.
The new “Spider-Man” is targeting a July 2021 release.
Fans owe Holland some butt-kissing.
And if the deal was as easy to fix this time as some begging, and reference to some D23 fan crying, maybe it can be saved again in a couple years.
Who knows?
Fan willpower has made, and can make some magical things happen.
