Star Wars posters! (MM #147)

Looks like the Star Wars machine is finally going to start ramping up until December.

So, here they are...

The Rise Of Skywalker, and The Mandalorian.

Also, the Kevin Feige Star wars thing.

And, with Star Wars, Marvel, and DC, that's the news backlog from this week cleared away!

Misc Marvel. (MM #146)

Buncha stuff landed this week to catch up on....

Kevin Feige, who you may know as the most successful movie producer in human history, and/or as the God you give your offerings to on the geek altar, is going to create/produce a Star Wars movie.
Because he's a fan, and after putting several billion into Disney's coffers, he can literally do anything he wants.

Sony and Marvel kissed and made up out of the fucking blue!
They're going to do Homecoming 3, and Spidey can pop up in one more team-up movie.

Which is the deal they should have cut all along.

Thus, this part of the post also counts as "Spidey-Verse #5".
(Here's 1, 23, & 4)

Y'know that Ghost Rider show being developed by Hulu?
Kiss it goodbye.
Yeah, they cite "creative differences", which is 90% of the time code for a couple fevered egos were scratching, and pulling hair, and crying.
Get it together, ladies!
*Head shake*

Hellstrom is apparently still going ahead.

And, that's all of those.

Crisis On Infinite Earths update #6. (MM #145)

Another one like Kevin Conroy I predicted on accident!

Ashley Scott as Huntress from "Birds Of Prey"!!!

I said last time...

Which means, The DC-CW universe has been one unbroken thing.
Except for Birds Of Prey.
BUT, if they bring in Mark Hamill to be Kevin Conroy's Joker, that'll tie that in too, because Hamill voiced a live-action Joker in Oracle's flashback of getting shot in the spine ala "Killing Joke".

I was just randomly musing!
Well, there you go, the DC-CW universe going all the way back to the start of the WB is canonized now!
I've really gotta get around to seeing "Birds Of Prey", now.
If I can find it....

In other "Crisis", news, Lynda Carter hasn't been confirmed yet, but they're trying to convince her.

And in other-other "Crisis", news, here's pics of Brandon Routh as "Kingdom Come", Superman.

Remember, Brandon Routh's Superman was re-cast Christopher Reeve, so this is the final fate of, and last adventure for Christopher Reeve Superman.

That's all for now.

Digit fix (MM #143-144)

Yep, I screwed up.
Didn't realize it until the last Ghostbusters one.

I slipped up, and did two number 136-es.
Then dropped one from the list, and didn't catch it.

It was the Ghostbusters one that got dropped.
Well, it's back in in the Tobin's post, and it's back in here.

And to fix the numbering, this one's a double-decker, to bump it forward the missing number.
That way, I don't have to go all through everything from 136-142 correcting it all.
This post will do it all.
So, it's all good now.

GB2020: Tobin's Spirit Guide. (MM #142)

One really super-cool pic that has me down-right drooling for this movie now!

Tobin's Spirit Guide!!

It's mentioned twice in the first movie, but never seen, but in the cartoon and comics, it's grown into the frigging "Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy", of the Ghostbusters universe!

Well, we finally get it in onscreen canon in a live-action film!
And it doesn't disappoint!
It's gorgeous!

And its got John Horace Tobin's initials.
His full name was created in the role-playing game, and passed down to the comics, and then trickled into everything else.
Including the Insight Editions version of the book (which I own).
It's always cool when bits of fan-canon make it into the official lore like that.

So, wow, yeah, they're going all out on this flick.
Every little detail is being zoomed in on in painstaking detail.
We're in good hands.

"The Batman", casting #2. (MM #141)

Like I said in the Bat-inson announcement...

Now, for the casting of Commissioner, Alfred, and the villains.

Well, we've got a Commissioner!

Jeffrey Wright!

So, that's Bruce and Gordon down, Alfred and the villains left to go.

Rumors of Jonah Hill reading for a villain.
I'll report on it if/when it happens.

KFC recipe. (MC #9)

Yep, I possess this knowledge.
The secret 11 herbs and spices.
They found it a few years ago in Col. Sanders wife's scrapbook, and it got out online, and I nabbed it, put it in a notepad file, tucked it away in a folder, and forgot I had it.
Stumbled onto it last night, and was like "hey, I have a category on my blog now that's just right for this!". So, here you go!

11 Spices – Mix With 2 Cups White Flour

1) 2 teaspoons Salt

2) 1-1/2 teaspoons Thyme

3) 1-1/2 teaspoons Basil

4) 1 teaspoon Oregano

5) 1 tablespoon Celery Salt

6) 1 tablespoon Black Pepper

7) 1 tablespoon Dried Mustard

8) 4 tablespoons Paprika

9) 2 tablespoons Garlic Salt

10) 1 tablespoon Ground Ginger

11) 3 tablespoons White Pepper

Enjoy!

And, here's a Dollup episode on Col. Sanders.
Listen to it as you make the chicken.
He was kind of a prick, so don't feel guilty about stealing his recipe.

Happy 80th birthday, Batman! (MM #140)

See you for the next 80!

Pennyworth. (MM #139)

Batman's 80th birthday is being celebrated this month, so may as well squeeze this in there....

Pennyworth (2019)

I'm eight episodes in so far, and so far, so good!

About young Alfred Pennyworth (Alfred the butler from Batman).

Thomas and Martha Wayne are in it too.
Thomas hasn't married Martha yet, so she's Martha Kane.

Surprisingly good!
Damned good!
The kind of idea you hear on paper, and scoff, but when you see it executed, damn!

It's got a James Bond/Kingsman vibe to it.
And it's got cussing and bewbies, so it's not for the kiddies.

Main plot is, Alfred and two of his military buddies have started a security company, but they very quickly get embroiled in a war between secret societies, and the spy agencies spying on them.

That's how Thomas and Martha factor in.
Martha is a reporter, Thomas is a spy.

Nothing violates canon yet, they're pulling off a really good dance with it so far.

Gotta say, I like it better than Gotham.
And I really dug Gotham.

Someday, I have to buy all of Adam West, all of Kevin Conroy, all of Gotham, and this easily goes in the collection too.
I just hope it sticks around for awhile, and doesn't go the way of "Krypton".

Anyway, highly recommended.

The Dark Crystal. (MM #138)

Damn, I saw these a few weeks ago now, time to blog it, and get it over with....

The Dark Crystal (1982)
The Dark Crystal: Age Of Resistance (2019)

Old review of TDC here.

And from here....

I hadn't seen the movie since...well, since it was on HBO in '83 I think.
It'd been awhile.
So, I had to re-watch it to re-familiarize myself with the world before jumping into the show.
I don't know what order works best. Movie, or show first.
The beginning of the '82 movie starts sadder for the good guys than Star Wars.
So, when you know the movie before the show, you kinda know going in any victory is going to be as hollow as "The Phantom Menace".
And that's kind of how it ends, TPM style.
A happy end that you know is going to be reversed later.
But, it's the journey getting there, and meeting and caring about the characters, and on that level DC:AOR kicks TPM's ass.

That's the quick run-through version, now I'll ramble a bit.

Seeing the movie again for the first time in ages, wow, it really holds up well!

I reverse my opinion, I declared "Labyrinth", as Henson's masterpiece, and it is great, but "Dark Crystal", has a much bigger world to play with.
Easily as big as Star Wars.
Both in physical scope, and time-span.
And it's not for little babies just cuz it's Muppets, it's dark as a motherfucker.
Movie or show.

Now, the show.
The movie has that the Skeksis ruined the environment, and wiped out the Gelflings, and we get the sense that this was a rapid process, but "Age Of Resistance", shows us, it was gradual over generations.
Here, the Skeksis are just learning to drain life essence, and are actually friends with the Gelflings, and the Gelflings are unwitting dupes to their own demise.

Like a lot of Americans today.

I can't not see the satire in it.
The Skeksis are so clearly Republicans, and/or the rich in general, and the Gelflings are....all the unwitting dupes, conservative and liberal alike, who keep eating the shit sandwich, and just aren't able to see the doom coming.

Very good show, and it lives up to the classic film.
A worthy prequel.
Who knew we'd ever see one of those, eh?

Yep, I'd gladly watch multiple seasons of this so long as they find ways to keep it fresh, and explore new facets of this universe.
Keep it coming!

Y'know, I'd recommend this to Thrones fans.
Yep, I would.
Like I said above, both the movie and show are dark as a motherfucker.
It's got everything Thrones has but the titties and cursing.
And...you get little winks at some of that too.
If this hangs in there for at least 5 seasons, this could be your replacement show.

That's a good enough sized chunk of text, I guess I'm done.
Peace out.

RIP Jack Donner.

*Sad sigh*
(Sent back in time from my future-self in 2023, cuz I was too numb to do it at the time)

He played Tal on Star Trek The Original Series.
Specifically, "The Enterprise Incident".

He was domestic partners with Margaret Wander Bonanno.
They met at a Star trek convention.

I knew him somewhat through Margaret, but I wish I had gotten to know him better.
Time, and my own clumsy absent-minded jackassery got in the way.

Now, all I have are her stories, and references in her books.
It'll have to do.
I'll cherish every memory I have of them both.

Crisis On Infinite Earths update #5. (MM #137)

One that follows from yesterday's.

Erica Durance as Smallville's Lois Lane.

So, we're getting a continuation of Smallville's finale.
And Smallville continues into the Arrowverse, so back when Arrow first came out, and I thought it was a Smallville spinoff, because that universe also had a Green Arrow, I wasn't wrong.
Technically.

Anyhoo, that's that.

Ghostbusters cast updates. (MM #136)

IMDB has some new actors and character names up....

Link.

We've got Murray, Weaver, Potts, Aykroyd, and Hudson as their respective classic characters.

We've got Bokeem Woodbine as Sheriff Domingo.
We've got Marlon Kazadi as Thickneck.
We've Sydney Mae Diaz as Swayze.

So, at least that's SOME new character names!
Still a blank nothing for Wolfhard, Coon, Grace, Rudd, O'Conner, and Kim.

All the technical credits seem to be locked into place too.
So, anything we still don't know is a deliberate veil of secrecy.

Crisis On Infinite Earths update #3. (MM #135)

Kind of a "no duh!", one, and a not so "no duh!", one, but I still should have seen it coming.

90's Flash (John Wesley Shipp), and Jonah Hex.

I just assumed all along 90's Flash would be in it.
But now it's officially confirmed.

As for Jonah Hex, it's not the Josh Brolin one, it's Johnathon Schaech from the CW-verse.
Specifically, Legends Of Tomorrow.

I should have seen it coming, cuz they're pulling in every single other notable DC-CW character.

Oh, and I've been loathe to add this update, but, it may be that Wonder Woman '77 and Smallville Superman are out.

....or are they?
The showrunners said those two were just rumors.
BUT, Tom Welling was asked if he was in Crisis, and he said "well, duh!".

So...has Welling been misinformed about his involvement?
Is he fucking with us?
Are the DC-CW people fucking with us to hide spoilers?
And if Tom Welling is secretly involved, then is Lynda Carter too?
I mean, they had her on as the president in "Supergirl", she wouldn't be impossible to get.
So why not get her?

We'll have to see.
For sure, we're getting Burt Ward Robin, Kevin Conroy Batman, Brandon Routh Superman, and John Wesley Shipp Flash for ones outside the CW-verse timeline.

Still a badass lineup.
Still excited.

Resurrection! (SFF #5)

So, that chick who died?
Nope, she's alive.
Was just trying to get to the bottom of what she died of.

No wonder I couldn't find a proper obituary.
Well, that's jarring, I went through this whole processing...process, and that's all down the tubes.
Now I have to go through a whole other process.
How existentially strange.
This is shit you usually only see in movies.
The internet is a brutal place.

Pumpkin spice season: Part 2.5. (MC #7.5)

Oh, yeah, forgot to mention....

I said here...

Maybe I should grab a bag of those pumpkin Werther's to take my taste-buds down memory lane.
Hmmm...

I did it, I had them for a movie snack to go with "IT: Chapter Two".

They're scrumptious, decadent, and crack.
They're even better than you imagine.
They also have a caramel apple flavor I have to try.

Did they take me down memory lane?
Everything fucking takes me down memory lane, my brain is like Doctor Manhattan.

But yeah, it felt like completing a quest.
Combined with re-watching Dr. Giggles, and Gate II, that is.

So, that's all done.

Big 2019 Movies Part 10.

Previously-

And after a chasm of an absence from these, we're finally back, and IT's....

IT: Chapter Two (2019)

Previously from Stephen King-

Yeah, fuck it, I'm ditching the bullet-points.

Not quite as perfect as Chapter One, but still pretty damned good.
Better than the miniseries second half, for sure.

Yeah, they still didn't do the book ending.
But the book ending is really weird, and right out of Doctor Strange.
I can see why they chickened out, but I wish they hadn't.

But...the ending they used still captures the overall idea of the book ending.
Plus with little shout-outs to the miniseries ending.

They use the anti-gay hate crime beginning from the book.

The witch scene from the book is still toned down, they don't dare to go as far as the book there.
I dunno why, other horror movies have done worse since 1986 when the book came out.

Everyone is great as the adult version of the kids.
Bill Hader steals the whole movie.
A massive upgrade from Harry Anderson.

The kids are back in extra scenes, and they're still great.

Best Stephen King cameo ever!

There's a moment straight out of "John Carpenter's The Thing", you'll know it when you see it.

Overall, a satisfying conclusion.
If you liked Chapter One, you'll like this.
If you didn't like Chapter One, sorry, I can't help ya.

Can't wait for the ultimate cut of both of them stitched together.

Next time, (clowns again) Joker!!!!!

A nostalgia two-fer. (MM #134)

Two early 90's flicks that popped into my memory....

In "Pumpkin spice season: Part 2. (MC #7)", I said...

I should fire up "Doctor Giggles", for old time's sake too.
And "The Gate II", I remember her recommending that one.
I remember that one had that everything you magically wished for literally turned into a pile of shit after. That's some fun shi...uh, stuff. *smirk* Heh.

So, what the Hell, I did, and here they are....

Dr. Giggles (1992)

Previous review here.

So, did it get better with time?
Ssss...nooope.
By my outlook on it got a little better.

It's not scary enough to be straight horror, and it's not funny enough to be horror-comedy.
Although, that's probably what you'd officially have to categorize it as.

He's a Batman villain.
I snapped to the realization when he busts out of the cartoony asylum at the beginning.
He's a test-run of a crappy Batman villain before Batman finally traces his evidence trail, tracks him down, and beats the shit out of him.
It's just that the movie cuts off the Batman part.

Imagine an extra scene where Christian Bale shows up, and goes "rarr-rarr-rarr-rarr, Doctor Giggles!!", *punch*.
Then that makes it almost worth it.
Almost.

One neat bit of trivia I found out right at the start of the credits.
This was directed by Manny Coto!!
The guy who fixed "Star Trek: Enterprise"!
Not enough to save it from cancellation, but he made the fans happy.

He became show-runner in the fourth and final season, and he made a laundry list of "what would I want to see with a Classic Star Trek prequel?", and he did all of it.
He tied it into Classic Trek rather than get lost in a hedge maze of introspection trying to make it about 9/11, which is what season three was all about.

Boy, you came a long way from "Doctor Giggles", buddy.
Good on ya.

Gate II: The Trespassers (1990)

Not as good as I remembered, but still better than "Dr. Giggles".
But not by much.

I dunno where the "The Trespassers", sub-title comes from, it's not on the poster, the box, or in the credits.

Anyway, the glasses kid from the first movie is a teenager now, and he re-summons the demons, because we need a sequel, and he has to drink idiocy potion off-screen to justify it.

Best part was mentioned up top, when the magical genie wishes from the mini-demon turn into piles of shit.
The movie never deals with how they cleaned up a car sized pile of excrement in the driveway.
Just poof, it's suddenly gone.
I want a whole movie of that.
Disposing of regular household trash in the suburbs is a headache, how do you get the trash-man to carry away 2000 pounds of butt-mud sent from Hell?
That must have taken some smooth talking.

But, nope, the poop-mobile takes up less than 30 seconds of screen time.
20, tops.
Bummer.

My trivia take away from this one, is the girl who becomes glasses kid's girlfriend is the voice of Bobby Hill on "King Of The Hill".

My Easter-egg take away is that I sat through the credits, and I don't know why, but I was rewarded with an after-credits scene of the hamster who was sacrificed at the beginning of the movie climbing out of the portal to Hell resurrected. Like "look! The hamster is okay too!".
Um...yay?
If this were remade, the hamster would be the first of an Avengers team of horror movie zombie pets.
Thankfully, cinematic universes weren't a thing in the 90's.
...except for Kevin Smith movies.

Anyway, I figure I've processed the whole thing now, and I'll never have to watch this crummy movie again.
Or "Dr. Giggles".
Last time for both, I promise.
