Fun Sized Movie Treats (Part 12)

Another double feature....

Saturday The 14th (1981)
and
Transylvania 6-5000 (1985)

Saturday The 14th

This was on a million times on HBO when I was a kid.
I know, I mention that a lot.
Maybe sometime, I'll do a compilation of "the HBO years", or something.
I'll put it on the list for future "based on a true story", update-athons.

Aaaanyhoo, I watched a shitload of old HBO movies this summer, and this was in the mix.

I loved it as a kid, but man, is it corny as hell.
I'm already re-forgetting it.
I remember the good-guy vampire and the bad-guy paranormal investigator making recorded sound effects come out of their mouths.
I remember the jacket in a closet eating someone and belching.

I remember there was a pretty scary looking Gill-Man.
That must have caused some nightmares.

Um...yeah, something about this flick refuses to stick all the way to my memory tape.

Show it to your kids, they might like it.
But they'll be ready to upgrade to "Swamp Thing", "House", and then "Fright Night", pretty quick.
I was.

Transylvania 6-5000

There ya go, Hyla, I finally squeezed this one into one of these marathons.

Another HBO flick.

It's very clearly trying to be an update to the Abbot and Costello horrors.

Ed Begley Junior and Jeff Goldblum are tabloid reporters that go to investigate reports of real monsters in Transylvania.
Scooby-Doo hi-jinks ensue.

I won't spoil the ending, but suffice to say, it's a big "(comedy trumpet) wa, wa, waaahh".

And, that's about the rating I give this too.
Wa, wa, waaahh

Geena Davis is boner-licious as a sexy vampire though.
That's almost worth the whole movie.
....fuck almost.

And.....yep, that's good enough for fun-sized.

Next up, fancy word for hubbub.

Goldblum was so lucky getting to bang 80s Geena Davis.

Suggestions for your HBO years post include "Just One Of The Guys" and the 1988 turd "It Takes Two" which had a stupid "chicken chicken" scene my brother used to quote with me all the time, where some guy calls up a chicken restaurant and makes barfing noises. It's so forgotten, I had to IMDb "I Need To Know"-board it.

"Just One Of The Guys" connects to "Transylvania 6-5000" because Ed Begley Jr. and Joyce Hyser are both in "This Is Spinal Tap" and neither has any lines!
