Ghostbusters 2016 poster!! (Part 3)

Part 1.
Part 2.

Pretty much a variation on the first one.

But, there's been an elephant in the room I've dodged until now.
That subtitle.
"Answer The Call".
Is that the new title?
A tag line?
People have asked, and Sony's stance is this...
It's optional.
The official title is "Ghostbusters".
It'll be on the marquee, the tickets, the merch, BUT if you want to separate it from the 1984 original in your mind, you CAN call it "Ghostbusters: Answer The Call".
Abbreviated, GBATC.
But, I'm addicted to calling it GB16, it's one less character to type, it rolls easier off the tongue, so I'm loathe to switch over.
Which is why I've avoided it.
It flashed by real quick in some trailers, but now it's on a poster where you can look away, look back, and it's still there.
It can't be denied.

You can call it whatever you wish.
When the other films and shows start coming out, it'll be even harder to separate things, so I'll probably cave in, and call it "Answer The Call".
Until then, it's GB16 to me.

Anyhoo, neat little detail, if you string together the posters so far, it kinda tells a little story.
Check it out.

So, that's that.

New logo for year 9!

From this... this.

Couldn't settle on one single look, so I just collage-ed titles of favorite movies.

No-prize to whomever can guess them all.

I'll have to remember for year 13 to collage all the Shmegalamonga logos.
The spare ones from year 3 will help me skip over 9 so that "M", ain't a rerun.

Previous changes.

Eight years of Shmegalamonga!!!!!!!!

Two away from 10!
That flew by!

Well, the training is complete.
I clearly know what I want to do, and I believe in my ability to do it.

Like the last couple times, let's just fly through updates...

The Harry books turned 4.

Jade Shade and Chokecherry turned 3 years old.

Eidolon turned 2.

Dr. Herbert turned 5.

I did calendar day 3.

No more en-Mike-lopedia.

BUT, Big Summer Movies has grown to year round, cuz geek movies have conquered Hollywood.

I'm crazily looking forward to Ghostbusters (2016).

Harry Hembock turned 27.

Krazyfool's Den Of Delusion turned 17.

The Krazyfool Show turned 16.

Harry Hembock: Dark Designs turned 7.

"Captain America: Civil War", came out, so Spidey is in the MCU, and his standalone movie will be "Spider-Man: Homecoming".
And, there are rumors Fox is in talks for an MCU crossover too.
Hey, the Sony crossover was rumors too.

Last year, reported on gay marriage.
This year, the bigots are pushing back hard.
They're gonna lose, but boy have they been nasty and petty.
Obama years are winding down, crossing my fingers hard we don't end up with Trump.

SOOOO much death. :(

David Bowie, Prince, Angus Scrimm, Alan Rickman, Glenn Frey, Abe Vigoda, Bob Elliot, Joe Alaskey, Vanity, George Gaynes, Harper Lee, Tony Burton, Gary Shandling, Patty Duke, Doris Roberts, Chyna, Morley Safer, Alan Young, Joe Fleishaker, Muhammad Ali, and Anton Yelchin.

And we're not out of this crummy year yet. :-(
I'm tellin' ya, between the bigots, the deaths, and Brexit, this feels like "The Empire Strikes Back", of years.
2017 better be Jedi.

No bullshit excuse making this time, I cranked out 13 chapters of Jade-Shade, and a couple of them were frikkin' huge.
About 20-something conventional chapters worth of actual material there.
More to come.

Up next, the logo for year 9.
Damn, wasn't ready at all, gotta whip it up from scratch.
Don't tap your foot waiting, could go into nighttime.

Happy 3rd birthday, Chokecherry!

Not much progress for 2016, but last year, I got done chapters 6 through 18, which ain't too shabby.
Buutt....a good chunk of those were Chokecherry-less, being about Jade-Shade on his own searching for new team members.

But, she came back pretty strong in chapters 12, 13, and 16.
And, we took a pretty deep dive into her origin story in chapter 18.

So, it was actually a better year for Chokie than I'd thought!

Go, Chokie, go!!

Stay tuned for more!

Big 2016 movie preview. (Update!)

Original post.

Couple changes....

Star Trek Beyond?

I'm not going.

I've seen Trek in the theater since "The Voyage Home", but Trek has been an abusive relationship through the late 90's and 00's, and the last straw was them recently fucking over the fan-film community with draconian bullshit.
Fans kept Trek alive, and Paramount keeps shitting on them.
They can't have my money anymore.
I had little enthusiasm for this one before, "Into Darkness", was forgettable, this looked like more of the same, this clinched it for me.

So, if Ghostbusters is good enough, I'll see that a third time, and if not....

Sausage Party August 12th, one week after "Suicide Squad".
Decently sure this'll make me happier than another anemic Trek ever would.

Anyway, fucking Star Wars is back, I've got "Rogue One", in December, Trek isn't the last chopper outta 'Nam for space opera anymore.

Ghostbusters- Passing The Torch.

Okay, 21 days to go until GB16.
To keep myself from climbing the walls, I'll do three more GB posts for each week until we get there to give myself a chore to focus on.
I have no idea what the other two will be, but I came up with this one last night.

In "In defense of the Ghostbusters reboot", I picked apart the "Waaahhh!! I wanted an original cast reunion!!", argument.
A variation on that is "Waaahhh! I wanted a torch pass!!".

You got both.

The Jimmy Kimmel reunion was the torch pass!

Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, and Bill Murray even touched the new cast's craniums like they were passing their power to make it ritualistic.

See here and here for the complete reunion.

"Waaahhh! That's not canon!".

*Sigh* oh, for chrissakes, I'll make it canon......

Okay, the GB1/GB2 cast and the GB16 cast were on Kimmel....

The GB1/GB2 cast were on Today Show interviewed by Al Roker, cuz he's a big time Ghostbusters fanatic, and it was the 30th anniversary at the time.

Then, Al Roker did a set visit to GB16 last summer, and it was released a couple months ago, after an embargo.

..and, Al Roker, as himself, on The Today Show is in GB16, and even made it to the trailer.

Al Roker and Today Show are canon, the set visits are canon, so Kimmel is canon.

"But not original 2 films canon! Only reboot universe canon!".

Oh, son of a bitch.....

All right....

In the music video for Ray Parker Junior's "Ghostbusters", the guys in character dance down the street with Ray Parker.

In Ghostbusters 2, Ray and Winston dance to the song at a children's party.

That makes the song canon, and thus the music video canon, probably fitting in after the end of GB1.

Ray Parker Junior played the song on Kimmel, and both casts danced to it.
That's an even more powerful mojo ritual than the cranium touch.

Boom, canon, done.

There's your torch pass, it happened.

The (fourth) YEAR Of Hembock!

Since last time, Harry turned 27.

And in that, I confirmed there will in fact be a 5th Harry book to come out after Quantum Dissolve is done.

And, that the anniversaries will count towards bonus material for that.

So...gotta make this count for something....

How about this?
I wish permanent full body gout on anyone who promised to buy the quadrilogy and didn't.
You know who you are.
You're just goddamned lucky curses aren't real.
If they were, you'd be so fucked right now.
But, so would a lot of even shittier people that deserve it, and we'd probably live in a better world right now.
And all those assholes pray.
So, thank your lucky stars that life is actually meaningless.

Anyhoo, see you next year! :-D

Ghostbusters: Ecto Force.

Continuing "The Ghostbusters of Christmas future".

It's official, the TV series mentioned by Ivan Reitman will be animated, is called Ecto Force, and is slated for 2018.

Pasting the press release....

A brand new animated television series, GHOSTBUSTERS: ECTO FORCE, will further expand the Ghostbusters cinematic universe and focus on a new generation of Ghostbusters in the year 2050 who capture ghosts around the world with help from local teams—and some very cool gear! The younger-skewing Sony Pictures Animation project is being creatively spearheaded by Ivan Reitman and his production company Ghost Corps. GHOSTBUSTERS: ECTO FORCE is eyeing an early 2018 debut.

So, GB16 this year, animated movie 2017, Ecto Force 2018.
The GBCU is taking shape.

Happy belated anniversary, Ghostbusters 2 &3.

Thursday June 16th, wasn't just the release day of the GB16 international poster,  it was also the 27th anniversary of "Ghostbusters 2", and the 7th anniversary of "Ghostbusters: The Video Game".

There we go, that little oversight is corrected.

Ghostbusters 2016 poster!! (Part 2)

The first one.

International one.

Aw, man, that one's so much more dynamic and cooler than the American one!

Suuure, wait until I print out the other one for my wall.
Ah, well.

Anyway, retro-linking to the 32nd anniversary via comments.

The shit on my walls (Part 19).

Part 18.

Yeah, I couldn't resist...

Ghostbusters trilogy.

This took a little reshuffling.

Already had GB1, printed GB2 and GB16.

Bumped them down, and replaced the mosaic of superhero/sci-fi documentaries, the mosaic of "Never Sleep Again", and its spinoffs, and the mosaic of VHS documentaries.

Bumped the "Never Sleep Again", mosaic up to where GB1 used to be, and the VHS mosaic up next to it, which replaces the Hoggies menu.

Threw out Hoggies, and superhero documentary mosaic.

Doesn't matter what I physically toss out, I still keep the files.

Anyhoo, ahhh, that's better. :-D

Ghostbusters 2016 poster!!

About damned time.
"The Force Awakens", put theirs out 2 months before the flick came out.

It's pretty much the image I grabbed for the 32nd anniversary.
I had my fingers crossed, because I dug/dig it.

Happy 32nd anniversary, Ghostbusters!!

I didn't bother with the 31st, but this year, it's all going down!

So, here's the 30th again, and everything that's happened since then....
Here's all the GB16 trailers so far..
Here's the song...
Elle King "Good Girls".

The GB16 cast did covers for Elle magazine.
Cover art and track listing for the score album.

And tonight, the three surviving Busters, Annie Potts, and the new cast will be together on Jimmy Kimmel.
Here's a selfie with all 8 taken by Ray Parker Jr.

I think that's everything.
Youtube clips of tonight's show, plus any new news that creeps in today, I'll toss links in the comments section.
Unless it's the poster. The poster gets its own post.
But a link to that would go below too.

Finally, today marks 37 days until GB16, and Hyla's 40th birthday.
Happy Birthday!!

A GB16 lover's guide to Ghostbusters merchandise.

Previous GB16 related posts-

Last time, I covered all the GB1/GB2 merchandise and flicks that the GB16 haters are getting.

Now, if you're open to the new flick, and haven't made up your mind to hate it before seeing it, or, if you've fallen head over heels for it with what little bits you've seen, naturally, you get even more, so here's the rest of all that.

Warning: the books/toys/games give away a lot of spoilers, so if you want to walk into the theater completely fresh, bail out now.

Well, the flick hasn't come out yet, so we get no theatrical or home video stuff, but July 8th, give or take a week, will be....

The soundtrack albums.
One for the pop songs, one for the score.

"Good Girls", by Elle King already premiered yesterday.

I can only assume this is to GB16 what "Ghostbusters", was to GB1, and "On Our Own", was to GB2.
I like it. I can totally picture a Ghostbusting montage happening with it in the background.

Also, from the press release:
Other artists to be featured on the soundtrack include G-Eazy ft. Jeremih, 5 Seconds of Summer, Pentatonix, WALK THE MOON, Fall Out Boy ft. Missy Elliott, Wolf Alice and more.  A full track listing will be announced soon.

That's the only digital media we get until the flick, so let's jump ahead to books.

"Ghosts From Our Past".
And the spoilers begin.
GFOP is a fictional book within the movie that Abby Yates (McCarthy) and Erin Gilbert (Wiig) wrote together before they were Ghostbusters, and was a bone of contention that broke them up before the film starts. So, this imaginary updated edition no doubt includes events from the film.

There's the novelization of the flick you can pre-order now.
This one is for adults.

Then, there's this line of easy-reader for kids ones that retell the story of the film from different vantage points.

Then, as with the GB1 crew, the GB16 crew gets their own Little Golden Book. fact, let's see those together.

Ahhh, nice.

Then, we're back to the IDW comic again.
Even though it's the original crew, they maybe planted a seed for a GB16 crossover.

In March's "Ghostbusters International issue #3",....

....this panel clearly has the GB16 girls applying for a job at the firehouse.
We don't see their faces, but those are clearly their outfits from the leaked set pics last summer when they filmed in Boston.

So, that happened.
If nothing else, the comic book dimensionally connects the two universes.

And of course, Ecto-Cooler, Twinkies, and Campfire Marshmallows exist in both universes.

Then, like the guys, you get 6 inch figures of the girls.
Spoilers again.
They come with body parts of Rowan, the final bad guy, who you can build if you get all 4.

Here he is, assembled.
Clearly, his appearance is based on logo-ghost.
So, logo-ghost is named now.

The latest international trailers show him at the end, and I heard some idiot hater say "he's meant to be a generic ghost, not a real ghost!!".
Duh. He's a shapeshifter job like Stay-Puft.
But, he is not Stay-Puft like some sloppy movie sites have reported.

Anyhoo, if you get all 4 classic Ghostbusters, and all 4 new Ghostbusters, you can do your own crossover, and mix and match the accessories.

Okay, here's where we get into deep spoilers, so run away if you haven't already at the red text.

Stay-Puft IS in the film.

Here, we get the 6 inchers of the monsters, and it's Mayhem (dragon guy from second trailer), Stay-Puft, and Rowan.
They all have light up action, and Rowan has a different face, so he's not doubles of build-a-figure Rowan.

But zoom in on Stay-Puft's box there.
"Stay-Puft Balloon Ghost".
And if you look even closer, he has balloon seams on his arms and legs.
Combine that knowledge with that there's a scene in the second trailer where the girls are shooting at haunted parade balloons, and that must be how Stay-Puft is shoehorned in.
Not as a Gozer incarnation, but as an inflated mascot become possessed.

Okay, last time I said of the minis...

The whole GB16 line centers around these, but I'll get into that in more detail in a later GB16 merch post.

So, here's where I explain that.

We start with the main minis.
There's Abby Yates, some split-face ghost, and Slimer eating hot dogs.

There's Erin Gilbert, some kind of bug-man ghost, and a baby Rowan.

There's Jillian Holtzmann, a baby Rowan getting sucked into a trap, and (I think) the new library ghost from the trailer.

And finally, here's Patty Tolan, a regular non-hotdog Slimer, and a rat ghost.

So, if you get all 4 girls, you get a fistful of ghosts.

Big spoilers coming up again....

Here's a character chart off one of the playsets or vehicles, and you see there, the 4 girls, Kevin, and the guy in the red suit, who I'm guessing is human Rowan.
Yep, Rowan starts human, then dies, and comes back as logo-ghost.
I think these also come in blind-bags, and that's how you get the Kevin and the Rowan.

Okay, now here's how the minis tie the whole thing together....

As with the dudes, the minis are meant to fight the 6 inch monsters...

...then, there's an Ecto-1 for the minis, and it makes the ghosts light up.

Then, slime is coming back, and it comes with minis, and (mega-spoiler!!!) one of them is female Slimer.
Yep, apparently, Paul Feig is getting Slimer laid.

The slime comes in jars that look like the new traps.

Then, there's a child-sized proton pack, and you can put your minis in a compartment in the barrel, and project them onto the wall.

Then, there's a ghost trap that hooks to the pack, for storing the minis, play-capturing the ghost minis, and.... unfolds into a playset of the subway fight from the film.

Then, there's a proton pistol that shoots little Nerf bullets, and also hooks to the proton pack.

So, the minis tie the 6 inch inch figures, the mini-scale play, and the child-sized play all together into one interconnected little play world.

So, that's the minis-verse.

As with the guys, the girls also come in Minimates form.

Ditto Legos.
You get all 4 girls, the new Ecto-1, Kevin, Ecto-2, and a Lego version of Mayhem.

All with proton packs, traps, PKE meter, and other assorted gizmos.

Then, there's the Funko Pop figures, which I guess is a fancy name for bobble-heads.
You get the 4 girls, Kevin, Rowan, Gertrude Eldridge (library ghost), and a Funko-sized Ecto-1 with a variant Jillian Holtzmann.

Then, there's a line called Monster High, which are basically Goth Barbie, and they're doing one in a GB16 suit with a pack and a gun, and a stylized Slimer.
It's a convention exclusive.
I include it for completeness.

There's Hot Wheels of new Ecto-1, and Ecto-2.
As I said before, they do the cars of everything.

Rubber finger puppets of the girls, Kevin, 2 forms of Rowan, Slimer, and Mayhem.

Squeezie dolls of Slimer, split-ghost, and rat ghost, where when you squeeze 'em, their eyeballs inflate out of the sockets as stretchy latex bubbles full of slime with the eyeballs floating in it.
They did this trick with Madballs some years back.

A puppet of Slimer where if you pull on his tongue, he screams, and it's not a static recording, he screams for as long as you hold his tongue.
Also, if you pull his arm like a slot machine, he plays the Ghostbusters song.

Madame Tussauds in New York is going to have...I dunno what for dummies, if it's the guys, the girls, or both, but the main headliner thing will be a VR tour thing where instead of being tied to a treadmill or a stand, you walk through a hallway where the VR syncs up, and lets you touch walls and objects keyed to the simulation.

Then, there's going to be a PS4 game set sometime after the movie, where Ghostbusting branches out into new franchises, and you create your own team of characters.

Then, there'll be a board game called "Protect The Barrier".
It WAS spoilers for the big Rowan fight until the international trailer came out.

An Uno deck with the girls.
'Nuff said.

Now, back to t-shirts.

Again, Teepublic has the best, and they're the only ones with GB16 designs.

Shirtpunch did have that first Real Ghostbusters style design, but they don't anymore.

Now, I haven't seen them officially hit stores, but I have it on pretty good authority, and just plain common sense, that Jillian Holtzmann's glasses, and "screw u", medallion are totally gonna be a thing.

And finally....

Halloween costumes.
Women, men, and childrens.
The cheap ones will have inflatable proton packs, but the second wave will have expensive ones with plastic packs.
OR, you could go whole-hog with that $1000 Anovos pack from last time.

Oh, and also, sexy Stay-Puft.

Cuz remember how you always wanted to rail Stay Puft?
Well, clearly, somebody did.

And, that's all of that.
For now.
There will be more when the movie comes out.
