Pop culture updates #33.

Way back in July of last year, I said...

Marvel fired James Gunn over some politically motivated bullshit engineered by the guy who invented "pizzagate".
Fuck this country.

Remember that shit?

Well, Disney/Marvel finally found the new director for Guardians 3, and it's.....

*Drumroll*

James Gunn!!

Yep, he's back.
The bullshit is over, and the Twitter Nazis lost.

He's still doing "Suicide Squad 2", for DC though.

Kudos to Alan Horn for taking the hit to his pride, and asking him back.
And kudos to Gunn for not telling him to go fuck himself.

It's a win for everybody.
For Disney, Gunn, Marvel, DC, the comic book genre, and us, the fans.

The future for comic book movies is going to be exciting.

Now, Captain Marvel just has to make a billion, and Episode 9 has to make 2 billion, and the trolls will truly be beaten back to their sewer.

Pop culture updates #32.

Updating "future franchises", specifically Stephen King.

The Talisman!!!

Yep, it's finally being adapted.
Steven Spielberg bought the rights for it back when the book came out in the 80's, he wanted to direct it, but it got caught up in development Hell, and he could never get it going, and other projects came along, and it just kept getting lost in the weeds.

Now, he's producing, and Mike Barker is directing.

The book is awesome.
Imagine Harry Potter flung into an R rated Legend Of Zelda.

Add that to the list with IT Chapter 2, Doctor Sleep, and Pet Sematary.

Corrections/updates: Series 2, Part 6.

A second correction to a correction!!

In "Corrections/updates Part 11", I claimed I never wrote a poem.

I did so!!
In "Postcards from Podsville #21"!!!

It's sloppy, and fell apart at the end, and I wasn't happy with it, and I forgot about it, but it's a poem.

I mooshed too much together in the last paragraph.
The ideas needed to be broken up into littler pieces.

So, I've fixed it!!
9 years later, I fixed my broken poem.
Here it is.

Somewhere, someone tells the one they love "I hate you!".

Somewhere, someone screams, shouts, and terrifies, in the name of "some goddamned peace and quiet".

Somewhere, someone drinks to forget unpleasant experiences brought on by alcohol consumption.

Somewhere, someone shoots up to take away the pain of being alienated by their addiction.

Somewhere, someone wire-taps and spies in the name of "liberty".

Somewhere, someone prays to God to finally return, and end all the gloom and horror in the world let loose by religion.

Somewhere, a factory farmer wears a cowboy hat, and misses the irony.

Somewhere an old man applies to the big box store that drove out his hardware store.

Somewhere, a diabetic in a gas guzzler stuffs their face full of fast food, then looks up at a polluted sky, and says "such a shame, but what can ya do?".

Things you can count on.
These things are always happening.
Somewhere.

There.
Did that.
:-)

Pop culture updates #31.

Parts #1-30.

I folded "evolution of franchises", into this series, let's do some more folding in.

It all started with my Halloween horror reviews, so let's put the Halloweens in here.

Halloween.
There was some bleed over from Halloween to Thanksgiving, so let's chuck the Thanksgivings in there.

Thanksgiving.

And then that leads into Christmas, with my superhero stuff, so chuck those in...

Christmas.
And the Halloweens, Thanksgivings, and Christmases used to be bundled up as En-Mike-lopedia, so let's chuck those in.
Yeah, they're mostly a repeat of the above holidays, but there's some extra bits n' bobs n' bonuses to justify them.

En-Mike-lopedia.

And all of the above spun out of my documentary reviews, so let's chuck those in.

The Bigass Documentary Review Compilation.

And my movie BTS documentary compilation thingy is sorta the sequel, so chuck that in.

The great big geek documentary compilation!!

There, now I can just have this series drop in the little updates to the few franchises I actually give a shit about, and drop them into Halloween, Christmas, Star Wars day, and Ghostbusters anniversary, without being forced (by format, and self-imposed obligation) to cover every little news item for absolutely everything.

It can be nice and casual, like it always should have been.
I guess I had to go all the way around the learning curve to figure it out.
Now we start fresh!

Big 2019 Movies Part 2.

Part 1 (Glass)

After what seemed like a goddamned eternity, it's....

Captain Marvel (2019)

Previously on MCU phase 3....

Ahhhhh, there!!
  • I dug it a lot.
  • It's a slow burn in the first half, but I like world-building and character building stuff. If you didn't mind the farm stuff in Ultron, you'll be fine.
  • Get there in time. They do something really special with the logo.
  • Stan's cameo is fucking awesome.
  • The continuity dots for a bunch of the movies are connected.
  • Great selection of 90's girl-power songs.
  • There's actually a scene that gives a finger to the "why doesn't she smile?", assholes.
  • Carol Danvers is frigging great. Most super-hero-ey of the characters so far.
  • Good overarching message of believing in yourself, and ignoring the controlling turds that say "you can't do it".
  • Stay for both after credits scenes.
  • You'll be even more pumped for Endgame!!
  • Overall...not top tier with Infinity War, or Civil War, or Avengers 1, but...definitely among the Ant-Man, Dr. Strange, Guardians 2 tier.
  • Fuck the trolls, they need to die. I hope this makes a billion.

Do I actually have to tell you to go see it?
It's Marvel, if you've stuck around this long, of course you're going to see it.

Next up for Marvel, Avengers: Endgame, and Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Next up for these, Shazam!!
