Pop culture updates #32.

Updating "future franchises", specifically Stephen King.

The Talisman!!!

Yep, it's finally being adapted.
Steven Spielberg bought the rights for it back when the book came out in the 80's, he wanted to direct it, but it got caught up in development Hell, and he could never get it going, and other projects came along, and it just kept getting lost in the weeds.

Now, he's producing, and Mike Barker is directing.

The book is awesome.
Imagine Harry Potter flung into an R rated Legend Of Zelda.

Add that to the list with IT Chapter 2, Doctor Sleep, and Pet Sematary.

Your thoughts on this?

http://www.cnn.com/2019/03/08/entertainment/simpsons-michael-jackson/index.html

I guess it's now basically confirmed once and for all that Jacko really was Whacko (you probably know all about the new documentary) and I'm not sure how I feel about this sort of thing. I basically think it's silly stuff...but that's because I like that episode. Whatever, I guess I have the DVDs...

...so, one of the biggest pop stars in history, and I guess he really was a perv...is this the tip of an iceberg? Are we really going to try to forget about him completely, or something? Never going to hear f***ing "Man In The Mirror" over the supermarket PA? Used vinyl stores going to throw away all copies of "Thriller"?

Hmmm, well, they've done a good job of erasing Bill Cosby too.
No Cosby show, Cosby Mysteries, Cosby, I Spy, Fat Albert, Picture-Pages, or Li'l Bill.
No TV re-airings of Leonard Part 6, Ghost Dad, Mother Jugs And Speed, Bill Cosby: Himself, or Fat Albert the movie.

*Swoosh* gone.

I haven't been able to bring myself to watch the documentary yet.
Everyone I've heard from on my podcasts says once you see it, you believe the victims.
But, they also said it messes you up, and gives you nightmares, and it crawls around in your head after.

From what I gather from summarized descriptions, he didn't just have boundary issues, or desires he couldn't contain, and he slipped up a couple times, he had a whole web of evil little helpers, it was a whole rape machine.
He was evil.
Catholic Church evil.
There was no naive confusion.

A fan of Jackson were ya?

I like a few of the big hit songs and the relative obscurity "Carousel," but haven't even really bothered to listen to most of his big albums in full. I think he was probably guilty.

I'm just sort of taken aback--are we really going to try to ERASE the guy? A guy that huge?!?

It is disturbing.
He practically made MTV, and I bet you'll never see Thriller or Billie Jean in any retrospectives again.

Roman Polanski and Victor Salva are pedos, and their films still get play.

Oh, right, they're white....

Eghn, you probably said it best the first time: let's hope nobody is ever that famous ever again.

I sure hope Michael *Jordan* doesn't turn out to be a perv.
