Big Summer Movies Part 3. (Part 2.5)

And it's....

Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)

Yep, totally had to double-dip this one.
People with more scratch are seeing it up to six times! :P

Rundown.
  • First time was a sensory overload try to take it all in. This time, I could digest it better.
  • Theater experience was better. People were quieter, there was less of them.
  • Had one stupid kid behind me eating with his mouth open, but I moved down a row, and it was all right. And, I ended up in my usual seat anyway. So it all worked out.
  • Man, I love Furiosa! She's gotta get a spinoff sequel.
  • I visually dissected it a bit this time, and...it's got everything I loved about 80's movies, you've got some Star Wars in there, you've got some He-Man, you've some Conan, it's a stew of pure goodness.
  • That's what I love best, it's like the 80's never ended. We pick up right where we left off.

So, yeah, don't just run out and see it, see it multiple times.
Twice, minimum.

Next time, Terminator Genisys.
Or, Vendetta (by the Soska Sisters).
Whichever I can get my eyeballs on first.

Happy 4th birthday, Dr. Herbert!!

On this day in 2011, he premiered in "I Am Science!", Episode #1.

So, let's recap those episodes here...
...which were collected before here.

Then, he had his premiere in the JS-verse in Quantum Dissolve: Chapter 24.

Then, some of his origin was fleshed out in chapter 29.5, he was looped back to the original "I am science!", skits in chapter 31/38, and his complete origin was told in season 2 chapter 3.

So, as with Eidolon, now his RL origin.

Winding it all the way back, since I was a kid, I've dug mad scientists, going back to Creature-Feature flicks, and such.
In the 80's, there was even a Mad Scientist line of toys (referenced here).

So, it's no surprise or accident several mad scientist characters ended up in my cartoons over the years, and from the start.
Can't recall the names of 'em all.
Few if any survived into the Harry-verse.

Then, the internet age comes along, and for one post on a board, I played a character called "World-Wide Doktor", and I got a kick out of the "Doktor", part in the name, and always wanted to do something with that character.
It got back-shelved for almost 20 damned years.

Then, two events kind of intersected.
One, "The Human Centipede", came out, and that was the ultimate mad scientist, as far as the mad part goes.
And that got my gears turning on prior mad scientists in horror films that I'd loved.
Two, my first blog buddy, Steve Zara had/has a running hate-on for Michio Kaku, thinks he's a hack scientist, thinks what he does is "science porn", and that always got my gears turning on ways to tease him about it. That he was getting a stack of Kaku books for his birthday, I was gonna get him his autograph, and shit like that.
With my gears already turning on mad scientist stuff from "Centipede", I wrote some dumb skit where Steve gets a golden ticket and has to be taken on a tour of a science museum by Michio Kaku putting on a Willy Wonka persona, and singing "pure imagination".

Well, that was the final piece, I needed to change the name, and make that character come to life.

So, I mooshed together the names of some favorite movie mads, and "I am science!", was born.

...and then it fizzled out.

It needed real friend questions, and they just weren't into it.
They were at first, but it got old for them, or something.
Ah, well.

So, then Jade-Shade rolls around, and I make my big character list for future guests/crossovers, and Dr. Herbert ends up on it.

And I planted the seeds of his arrival on the scene as far back as chapter 7.5.
So, yeah, it was a frustrating wait for me getting stuck on the intervening chapters to finally fucking get to him.

In that intervening time, I planned for how he was gonna integrate into the larger plot that was slowly forming, and somehow, he evolved into Eidolon's dad.

I think it was as simple as someone had to be her guardian until JS & Chokie could meet her, and I couldn't come up with some generic disposable parents, and Frank Miller had already kinda done exactly that with Carrie Kelly in "The Dark Knight Returns", so I skimmed down my list of other characters, and Dr. Herbert just clicked.
They were gonna meet him anyway, so why not kill two birds with one stone?

So, JS & Chokie finally meet him in chapter 24, finally meet Eidolon in chapter 29, and I finally looped it back to the original skits in chapter 31/38.

Then for the final handful of sprinkles, I linked him all the way back to World-Wide Doktor in season 2 chapter 3.

So, he's World-Wide Doktor too.
But, the post with that incarnation is lost in electronic oblivion, and I decided his origin with the Dr. Herbert name is what counts.

Then Paladin drew him, then this anniversary came around, and there you have it.

Here's to his future adventures with Jadie & Chokie, and Eidie.
Stay tuned.

Big Summer Movies Part 3. (Part 3)

*Door flings open, blinding light pours through, choir music*

The Human Centipede 3
[Final Sequence] (2015)

Fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinally.
Ahhhhhh.
Happy. :-)

Let's recap the journey here...

Well, let's start by going through the checklist from "all the Human Centipede 3 news that's fit to print".

500 person 'pede? Check!
Helicopter shots? Check!
Machine guns? Check!
Makes part 2 look like a Disney film? Check!
Filmed in a prison? Check!
Chock full of authentic American profanity? Check!
Solves the mysterious endings of 1 & 2? Um....not really.
Unless there's something I have to decode....maybe the commentary will crack this for me...
Animals involved? Nope. Red herring.
Dwarves involved? Nope. Red herring.
Fast food involved? One tiny bit at the end. No big deal.

Three ring circus of filth and depravity? Oh HELL yeah!

Did it deliver on my "Freddy vs Jason", level excitement?

Ahem...

FUUUUUUCK YEEEAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHHAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!

IIIIII'M SOOOOO HIIIIIGH!!!!!!!!!!!!

*Wipes away a tear of joy*

Oh, *sniff* wonderful...this is the culmination of everything.
Garbage Pail Kids, Madballs, MAD Magazines, Fangoria, everything.
This is the fulfillment of it all.
I'm so fucking happy.
Bless you, Tom Six, bless you.
*Sniffle*

And fuck you, you pussy critics.
Especially whatsisface at Fangoria.
How DARE you taint that fine periodical with your PC pussitude?
Bad enough Bloody-disgusting has the disease.
(This did indeed demolish "A Serbian Film", btw)

Anyhooo...
The 'pede trilogy may be over, but up next for Six is "The Onania Club", which promises to be his sickest ever.

As long as he brings the humor with the sick, I'm onboard.
It's downer movies that get to me.
Boredom and depression drag me down more than anything gross or un-PC.

This sure wasn't boring.
If you at all liked the first two, this is a must.
I'd say you have to see this as immediately as "Mad Max: Fury Road".

So...I guess that's it.

Next time, Terminator Genisys.
Or, Mad Max again.
Yeah, probably that.

  • Stunts are incredible.
  • Reboot shmeboot, this very clearly goes between "Road Warrior", and "Thunderdome".
  • Man...I think I'd put this right up there with fucking "Conan The Barbarian"!!
  • Even if I spoiled everything, you still wouldn't be prepared. I just can't describe it.
  • Just go fucking see it. Now. Drop everything.

I repeat.
SEE. IT. NOW.

Next time, Human Centipede 3 (hopefully).
If not, Terminator Genisys.

Happy 1st birthday, Eidolon!

A year ago today, she premiered in Quantum Dissolve chapter 29.

Then, her origin was fleshed out in chapters 29.5 and season 2 chapter 3.

So, here's her RL origin.
I wanted a third character after Jade-Shade & Chokecherry, I wanted to complete the color scheme of green, red, blue, like the phosphors of a TV set, and years back, I also wanted Ennui from The Legion Of Liberty to be an expanded upon character in something someday.
So, all those ideas came together.
I had her appearance planned out fairly early on, but as I went along, I also wanted Dr. Herbert in there, and the future story morphed so that she was Dr. Herbert's daughter, so she had to be younger, and then it occurred to me, she should be as old as the millennium, so I dialed her age back to 14 (it should be 15 now, but I have to catch the story up).
As for the name, right up to almost the last minute, I almost kept Ennui, but I thought it was a bit on the nose, so I wanted to give her a side-kick-y type name spun off of Jade-Shade, and the only damned ghost name not used already in comic books was Eidolon.

THEN it occurred to me, I wanted Omneron in there, but as I said in this bit on Chokecherry, I want super-realism in this universe, and his kind of A.I. doesn't exist yet, so I made Omneron Eidolon's animated avatar.
So I effectively gave Omneron a body.

But...I might cheat that a bit anyway.
Stay tuned.

So, here's to future birthdays having more adventures to reference back to.

Big Summer Movies Part 3. (Part 1)

From last time...

See you next year.
That'll have Avengers 2.
That should be interesting.

Well, here we go....

Avengers: Age Of Ultron (2015)

First, let's recap phase 2...
Rundown.
  • I got my favorite seat at the theater yet again. :D
  • All the kickass of Winter Soldier, and as fun as Guardians.
  • I've seen some spoiler-free reviews say it's not as good as Avengers 1. Ehh...you can't break it down into math, they're just different from each other. And that's a good thing.
  • If I HAD to compare...it's a close tie with Winter Soldier, which I already liked a smidge better than Avengers 1.
  • A good capper to phase II, but we're still getting "Ant-Man", as a bonus.
  • The new characters kick ass over all.
  • Speaking of Kick-Ass, Ultron-Quicksilver is great, but like everyone says, he was better in "Future Past". Not so much so that Ultron-Quicksilver stinks or anything though.
  • Scarlet Witch is great.
  • Vision is awesome, but could have used more of him. But we no doubt will in "Infinity War".
  • Don't stay all through the credits, the mid-credits scene is all you get, but it kicks ass.
  • The humor is all through this one.
  • Everyone gets a shining moment, and Hawkeye gets a lot more to do than in the first.
  • The lineup is indeed changed at the end, and if you want it spoiled, the new roster most closely resembles that of "Avengers: United They Stand".
  • Someone brought a tiny little kid. People, don't fucking do that. Minimum age is 12, and even they might get antsy at all the talking in this one.
  • It delivered what I wanted after Avengers 1 ended. More character fleshing out, and getting right down to business.

Anyhoo, even if you don't end up liking this as much as Avengers, it's still fucking awesome.
You'll have to be a pretty jaded turd not to enjoy it.

Said in the "Winter Soldier", review...

Might just be the best Marvel to date.
"Age Of Ultron", will probably crush it though.
Scarlett Johansson and Chris Evans have hinted as much from their reaction to the script.

Ehh, didn't crush "Winter Soldier", but goes toe-to-toe.
Definitely up there.

I...think that's all I can say without spoiling things.

The End then.

Up next, Mad Max: Fury Road.

Happy fourth observed Star Wars day.

All righty, so last year we'd gotten as far as that episode 7 was going to exist, and it had been casted.

Since then....

That's the big stuff, now for leftover tidbits from the all-purpose SF thread.
  • "Rogue One", will come out Dec. 16, 2016.
  • Episode 8 will come out on May 26, 2017.
  • There was a rumor Disney would put the unaltered original trilogy on Blu-Ray, now it's not clear.
  • Alexandre Desplat is going to score "Rogue One".
  • TFA trailer will be before "Avengers: Age Of Ultron".
  • TFA promo art leaked. (still no official poster)
  • Finer details on "Rogue One". (nothing too much more illuminating)
And what the hell, here's the IMDB page for "The Force Awakens", for the complete cast.

By next year, "The Force Awakens", will have long ago come out, I'll have reviewed it, and maybe it'll be on DVD.
And of course, we'll be heading towards "Rogue One".

So, from here on out, there'll always be a Star Wars movie, there'll always be new news, and I'll always have a fresh poster to use on Star Wars day, so I never ever have to use the fuckin' prequels. :D

The shit on my walls (Part 16).

Part 15.

Another revision...

Mosaic of "The Death Of 'Superman Lives' What Happened?", "Doomed!", "Jodorowsy's Dune", and "Invaluable".

Replaces this one from here.

Got sick of looking at those.
I went the full cycle with those.
They were child trauma movie memories, then I found them, and saw the movies, and antidoted it, then I put them on the wall as an empowerment thing, then I got so used to them it became boring, and took all the power away from them.

So, they've suited their purpose, and now to replace them with things I actually enjoy.
