I think it'll lay low until GB2020 (now Afterlife) is in the rear-view mirror, and they've made their money, and it's on home video....and then ramping up towards and up to the 40th anniversary, the girls will be rolled back out again.

40th, definitely.

Which'll be the 8th anniversary of ATC.

Two years later, we'll hear some 10th anniversary stuff, hopefully the fan atmosphere will have lightened up a bit.

The scars for the actresses and Paul Feig should have healed by then.

Maybe we'll get some belated making-of stuff.

Speaking of scars healing, now for cast/director updates.

-Kristen Wiig is going to be in Palm Royale.

-Melissa McCarthy's in Little Mermaid. ...and an annoying Booking.Com ad. And an episode of Hot Ones.

-Kate McKinnon is in Barbie.

-Leslie Jones guest hosted Daily Show, and guest starred on "Our Flag Means Death".

-Chris Hemsworth is in Extraction 2, and is going to voice Optimus in "Transformers: One".

-Paul Feig is working on Spy 2, and he's executive producer on "Minx".

They're still ticking!

Happy 6th anniversary, Ghostbusters: Answer The Call!

Previously-

What's happened since last year...

-Turns out Afterlife was in development before/during ATC.

Buildup to today-

-Happy 38th anniversary, Ghostbusters!!

-Happy 33rd anniversary, Ghostbusters 2!!

Unless Jason Reitman announces that "Afterlife 2: Firehouse" is a "Multiverse Of Madness" style crossover, this little alterni-verse cul-de-sac seems pretty much done.

We got the movie, two comic crossovers, and two straight comic sequels.

That's it.

Bummer.

Hmm, y'know, I think if Afterlife had come out first (cuz we know now it was in development), and then ATC, and the Channing Tatum one, and the animated one all came out, but Sony openly MARKETED them as Elseworlds, like "Joker" and "The Batman" I think fans would have been okay.

It was keeping Afterlife top secret, and acting like ATC was the only iteration of Ghostbusters we were getting that made fans heads explode.

Or Hell, release ATC first, but just cop to that Afterlife was also coming.

Either way.

Some entertainment media pundits say is was our fault for fighting the CHUDs.

No, CHUDs suck, we weren't wrong, you don't roll over to bullies, it's that once fans got seduced into CHUD movements, it was already too late (for the film).

Sony needed to prevent the CHUDs.

Being so secret about Afterlife was their mistake.

Transparent and better marketing was the fix.

We can see that now in hindsight.

Can the damage be reversed?

Well, maybe the ATC crew can come back in "Firehouse" as the opposites of the cameo characters in ATC.

Kristen can be the cabbie.

Melissa can be the skeptic.

Leslie can be the hearse driver.

Kate can be the physicist (you can even give her a throw away line about parallel dimensions!).

Chris can be the hotel receptionist.

Plus there's the animated movie and series you could drop them into too.

Plenty of chances for comebacks.

A comeback re-habilitated Andrew Garfield's Spidey.

People are lapping up the Obi-Wan show, and it's a sequel to the dreaded prequels.

I think the same can happen for ATC.

We just need the girls back in something neutral and fun.

Speaking of, I guess I can give cast/director updates.

-Leslie Jones is still hosting "Supermarket Sweep" and was in "Coming To America 2".

-Melissa McCarthy is Fake-Hela in "Love And Thunder" and is gonna be Ursula in "The Little Mermaid" live-action remake.

-Kristen Wiig's latest couple movies were WW84, and "Barb and Star Go To Vista Del Mar".

Plus she was in "Bless The Harts".

-Kate McKinnon just left SNL. Now she's Carole Baskin in "Joe vs Carole"

-Paul Feig is doing "A Simple Favor 2".

-Chris Hemsworth is Thor, I think he's gonna be all right.

So, pretty good!

Everyone's holding up.

GB:ATC didn't "destroy" anyone.

The history of GB:Afterlife exposed!

Ghostbusters: Afterlife was actually in secret development before and during Answer The Call.

Jason Reitman says he had the earliest ideas for Afterlife a decade ago, then he realized Phoebe had to be Egon's granddaughter right after Harold Ramis died, which was 2014, and he had Sony execs secretly looking at the first draft of the script in 2016.

So, hey!!

The belief by CHUDs that the reboot got in the way of a GB3 is proven bullshit now!

We were always going to get both!

Their kicking, and screaming, and blubbering, and trying to drive down the RT score did absolutely nothing!!

So, GBA isn't their reward.

They did nothing, and earned nothing.

Their existence was a waste of everyone's time.

So you need to stop listening to their narrative that they're these brave troll-heroes that brought down this evil feminist conspiracy in movie form.

No, they're just CHUDs trying to get more Youtube hits.

That's all they ever were.

Happy 5th anniversary, Ghostbusters: Answer The Call!

-GB:ATC continues to nail its Trump predictions.

-Ghostbusters: Answer The Call, 5 years later.

Buildup to today-

-Happy 37th anniversary, Ghostbusters!!

-Happy 32nd anniversary, Ghostbusters 2!!

Same stuff I said last year about new content for the ATC characters being pretty much dead.

Much less acknowledgment from the studio that it ever existed.

All the fucking new merchandise coming out is Slimer, Stay-Puft, Slimer, Stay-Puft, Slimer, Stay-Puft.

Boooooriiiing.

For a little while after GBA comes out, we'll get Muncher & Mini-Puft stuff, but then (safe bet anyway) it'll pretty much go back to the tedious grind of Slimer, Stay-Puft.

Blah.

I really hoped for a multiverse starting with the girls.

Like we got in the comics.

That would've given us unlimited possibilities.

Kept the property from getting stale.

But, y'know, America up and decided to swing fascist, and pitch a piss spraying fit over ATC, cuz it was the coming of the feminism anti-Christ, or whatever fevered delusional bullshit, so there's that.

Course, this in reference to the "Snyder cut", which is finally coming out on HBOMax as "Zack Snyder's Justice League".

Hey, we never thought that would happen, and it is, so...y'know, don't lose hope, ATC fans.

Like I said up top, he's probably joking, BUT...if fans rallied for it long and hard enough, and Sony let him put it out there into the world, I hardly think he'd say "no", to the idea.

Big 2010's DECADE end movie recap! (Part 3)

And finally, the third and final part, the top 10 comedy films of the 2010's.
There weren't a lot of great straight ahead comedies this decade, and even less I saw at the theaters.
So, a lot of these, in fact most, overlap with the superhero genre.

There were already great comedies in the comic book movies list like Deadpool, and Ragnarok, but I didn't want repeats, so this isn't a list of pure merit, so much as runner-ups from the comic book list.

So, for what little it's worth, here's those.

1. Shazam!

Didn't get nearly enough of the box-office love it deserved.
It made money, but everyone should have gotten out to see it.

2. Lego Batman

Said it in the review, the "Spaceballs", of Batman.

3. Ghostbusters: Answer The Call

Goddamned right.
You knew I had to work this baby into one of these lists.

4. Zombieland: Double Tap

The first overlap with the horror list.

5. The World's End

Shaun would have been on the list, as would the first Zombieland, but, I missed them at the theater, so....

I said in the review I thought it would be a new classic, but that sadly hasn't materialized.
A lot of people even have this as their least favorite of the Cornetto trilogy.
I love Shaun and Hot Fuzz, but goddamn, this one had so much deep shit to say about addiction, and adulthood, and the traps of nostalgia, and conformity, and rebellion, and the failures of rebellion, and the traps of conformity, and the sickness of our modern society, and...I guess I got a lot more out of it than a lot of people. Go figure.

6. Ant-Man

This unassuming little film laid the groundwork for "Avengers: Endgame".
Who knew?
Anyone who read comics, that's who.
*Smug nod*

7. Ant-Man & The Wasp

Behind the first one by a decimal place.

8. Venom

The second overlap with the horror list.

9. Incredibles 2

Spider-Verse was better than this, but like I said up top, I didn't want repeats.
At least from the comic book list.

10. Sausage Party

Fun movie, I just wish they hadn't treated the animators like indentured servants.
I think that scandal probably hurt it at the box-office, and murdered its sequel chances.

Dammit, capitalism, why do you keep turning people into assholes?
Someone needs to do a raunchy animated satire on the money side of showbiz.
And pay their fucking animators.

ATC getting phased out? Looks like it.

Picking up from the GB1 comic announcement....

I had a funny kinda feeling on the third anniversary of ATC, but I didn't wanna voice it until I knew for sure.
I think I know for sure.
Pretty much.
Not 100%, but enough.

Well, first there's the GB1 adaptation, now comes word of a re-release of the novelizations of GB1 & GB2 merged as an omnibus, and a making-of book for GB1 & GB2 together as an omnibus.
(Artwork not available for either yet)

Everything coming out for GB2020 is GB1 & GB2 related, they're avoiding GB:ATC like a plague ship.

I don't think its right, I don't think it's fair, but I can see the cold-blooded business logic.

It was divisive, it flopped financially, it doesn't matter that it got a fresh rating on RT, it doesn't matter that it has millions of loyal fans, it doesn't matter that the conventions had a zillion Holtzmann cosplayers, it doesn't matter that an image search for "Holtzmann fanart", gives you a jillion wonderful results.

All that matters to Sony is the box-office, and the controversy.

If they associate this new one in any way with ATC, the incels are gonna scream about it all over again, and that will be the conversation instead of enjoying the new one, and they want to get away from that bullshit.

Part of me can't blame them.

So ATC is quietly being buried.
I think that sucks donkey dick, but there it is.

Leslie Jones was right.

I still think it'll make a comeback someday though.
FXX is playing the extended cut 3 hours with commercials.
Ghostbusters 2 was looked down on, and its made a comeback.
"Brownstone boy", in GB2 is directing the new one.

It'll be back somehow.
But for now, it's going into hibernation.

Fuck y'all, it'll always be in my marathons.

Anyway, in hindsight, you can kinda see the phasing out process playing out.

GB101, and GB:ATC:WDMC, they were splicing it into canon on an artistic level, and on a business level, they were trying to squeeze whatever bucks out of it they could.

WDMC was a trial run for an ongoing series, but it clearly didn't get up off the ground.

Crossing Over, and GB35th, the girls had to be there, because CO was the everybody crossover, and you can't tell the history of the 35th anniversary without acknowledging all 3 movies.

But absent an anniversary, or crossover, there hasn't been the slightest whiff of anything ATC related.
GB/TF was classic team, the GB1 adaptation is classic, natch, and all the other books coming out are classic team.

And in-story in CO, they said they were going to refrain from the dimension portal because of the danger to the multiverse it caused twice.

I think that last one-shot for the 35th was goodbye.

...for awhile.

Barring something crazy and external happening, 40th anniversary at the earliest for ATC being taken out of the dusty attic boxes again.
So don't tap your feet waiting.
It'll be awhile.

The director and cast of GB:ATC are doing okay.
I simplified the timeline.

Buildup to today-

Not much going on in ATC land this year.
Except for the 35th anniversary one-shot comic.

Same old bullshit with the trolls.
The announcement of GB20 kicked up the dust a little bit with those dimwits.

Leslie Jones reacted negatively to GB20.
Melissa McCarthy and Paul Feig reacted positively.

I still love the flick.
It ages like a fine wine.

I still maintain the ATC cast will be back someday in something.
Even if a little girl who saw it in 2016 has to grow up into a director to make it happen.
Hey, that's how GB20 is happening, Jason Reitman became a director, and had an idea.

But, I think we'll get something before that, whether it's animated, or Lego, or whatever.

Like I said last year, if they keep making ATC stuff, I'll keep doing these anniversaries.
