RIP Rob Reiner
Like I just said in the Ozzy one, I was still reeling from the loss of my mother, so I didn't keep up on these. Almost a year later, I can finally tackle 'em now.
Jesus, stabbed by your son. It's literally as tragic as the shit that happens to the grownup versions of the boys from "Stand By Me".
They did a really wonderful tribute for him at the Oscars.
That said it all best.

RIP Tom Stoppard
Like I said in the Terence Stamp, Graham Greene, and Diane Keaton ones, I had too much grief over my mother to do any of these.
I can tackle them now.
I found Stoppard's politics icky. You have to be full-on fascist to be full-on disgusting.
He was just...icky.
He was a pro-capitalist, pro-Christian, bourgeois elitist diet-Republican style liberal.
I don't know or care what the political labels would be in the UK; I just know I'm as sick to death of these "establishment libs" as the fascists.
I piss on the Clintons; I don't see Clinton-ism as some golden age; I don't see "The West Wing" as their Camelot legend that I get fucking misty and weepy over; and I think James Carville needs to be put out on a fucking ice floe instead of being treated like Yoda by our liberal pundit class.
I've fucking had it with these fucking people.
BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Stoppard will always be the guy who wrote "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead".
And Margaret and I got to share in that.
And he didn't groom and diddle any kids. Unlike Michael Jackson or Woody Allen.
So, I can grit my teeth for Tom Stoppard on this one case.

RIP Drew Struzan
Like I said yesterday in the Ozzy Osbourne and Rob Reiner ones, I was still reeling from the loss of my mother, so I didn't keep up on these. Almost a year later, I can finally tackle 'em now.
Struzan did more movie posters than you can shake a stick at.
The protagonist in "The Mist" was a poster artist, so they got Struzan to do the poster, and had David be the Struzan of the King-verse, and have his art up in his studio. Including the ones for "Shawshank" and "Green Mile".
I'll always love that weird little meta-tribute.
It made me smile when I re-watched "The Mist" for my latest read-a-thon of King books.
Off the top of my head....
He did the 9 Star Wars saga films.
He did the Indiana Jones-es.
He did The Harry Potters. (Yeah, I know, JK sucks)
He did a honking shitload of the Star Wars novels without anyone blowing the trumpet
Yeah, he got around.

RIP Diane Keaton
Like I said in the Terence Stamp and Graham Greene ones, I had too much grief over my mother to do any of these.
I can tackle them now.

Jesus, none of this is my bag.
She's in the whole Godfather trilogy, but I can't say I'm a fan of those.
I saw "Annie Hall" in high school film history class, and I didn't love it, but it really skeeves me out now that Woody Allan is outed as a pedo.
Which is a bummer, cuz, "Annie Hall" is for her what "Superman" is for Christopher Reeve.
It's her signature role.
Oh!! Wait!! She directed an episode of "Twin Peaks"!!
Good enough!
Margaret Bonanno hated her everliving guts.
That tickled me for some reason.
I told her to avoid "Because I Said So" unless she wanted to jump in a vat of acid afterward.
She laughed.
That is a miserable movie, as the link title says. I did find Keaton...esthetically pleasing though.
I....put it more crudely at the time. 😏
You know what? Screw it, I'm gonna consider it an honorable tribute.

RIP Patricia Routledge
From my future self in 6/9/26.
We got hit with a lot of celebrity deaths leading up to and after my mother's passing.
It was really a numbing beat-down.
Routledge was Hyacinth Bucket on "Keeping Up Appearances".
My mother, grandmother, and father were really into that show.
I thought it was cute, but I didn't love it like they did.
My dad named one of his chickens after Hyacinth.
Chicken-Hyacinth died a hero saving her sister Violet from getting chomped by a fox.
I didn't know human-Hyacinth was alive, but she was friggin' 96.
Needless to say, her passing stirred up a lot of memories.

RIP Jane Goodall
We got hit with a lot of celebrity deaths leading up to and after my mother's passing.
It was really a helluva beat-down.
So, Goodall was part of a triumvirate of soothing PBS good-guys along with Mister Rogers, and Bob Ross.
And she was part of the popular science communicator triumvirate with Carl Sagan, and Jacques Cousteau.
We never get a new one of these kinds of people.
They're always irreplaceable.
Like Phil Donahue.
In the case of Donahue and Goodall, they took an irreplaceable institution with them.
Like 60 Minutes.
We're not gonna get another one of those.

I have a hard time considering people that cruel human.
I'm ashamed of my anger, and try to be like Rogers, Ross, and Goodall.

RIP Graham Greene
Like I said in the Terence Stamp one, I had too much grief over my mother to do any of these.
I can tackle them now.
Shit, the only thing of his I ever reviewed was "The Green Mile".
I've seen him in a million other things, especially "Dances With Wolves" but I never reviewed that here either.
Well, I'll do a quickie now. It's visually beautiful, everyone performs their everloving guts out, and its heart is in the right place.
But, I don't love it.
It's not a movie I would choose to watch even once a year, much less every week. If it is that movie for you, bless your heart. Enjoy. I won't pee on your parade.
Now, my mother, she had a big dripping bleeding heart for the plight of the American natives, and I do too, but unlike me, she lapped up stuff like "Dances.." so she got all excited when she saw Graham in anything else.
She was the fangirl.
I do this memorial for more for her.
RIP, Graham Greene. You seemed like a cool guy.

RIP Ozzy Osbourne
Ma passed on the 10th, and the wind was knocked out of me, and I just couldn't deal with keeping up on these.
Ozzy was one of of my faves, but my uncles worshipped him.
I didn't even mention him at the wake after-party.
His songs popped up on the radio, and we were kinda silent about it.
There's always been this weird tension in our culture over whether weird nerds like me should "be allowed" to listen to metal.
I dunno, I'm a horror guy, and horror and metal go together like peanut butter and jelly.
And Stephen King is a fellow geek. He ain't sleeping with a million groupies.
Although...he did do the coke.
Well, if I stuck to things that didn't have gatekeepers, I'd literally have nothing.
And I'm not fucking doing that.
So, fuck you, I liked Ozzy.
And I fucking miss him.
A world without Ozzy and my mother sucks.
