Ghostbusters: RGB references in GB2, 3, and 4.

I've done all the ways (it seems to me anyway) that ATC was inspired by RGB.

Here's the ones I (again, my opinion) think inspired GB2.
And beyond.

These ones are broader strokes than the scene-by-scene comparisons in ATC.

GB2.
  • Paintings come to life (Hard Knight's Day)
  • A magical dome surrounds a structure (Night Game)
  • A river of ooze is under the streets of New York (Beneath These Streets)

Untitled animated Ghostbusters movie.

From here...

“I think we have wonderful plans, both for an animated feature that we’re deep in design on already and a really great story,” Reitman said to audience cheers. “That’s going to surprise everybody, I think, when it comes out. And we’re dealing with Ghost World quite a lot. We’re looking at the film from a ghost point-of-view, and the Ghostbusters from a ghost point-of-view. I think that would be something very interesting for you. And of course a new live-action film.”

And...

"Reitman teased the lead ghost in the new animated film would wind up joining the team of Ghostbusters".

That's pretty much the plot of RGB's "Buster The Ghost".

Ghostbusters 3

Without knowing specifics, it would of course have to involve re-uniting the old crew.
And Sony isn't going to let an evergreen franchise die on this movie, so they have to plant seeds for the future, so you know there's going to be new Ghostbusters.

Well, that's pretty much the premise of "Extreme Ghostbusters", which is a sequel to RGB.

It's also the premise of the game "Sanctum Of Slime", but set in the movie universe.

And RGB, EGB, and SOS met the movie Ghostbusters in "Crossing Over".

So, yeah, these stories happened already.

The point of them being movies though, is to be re-united as fans with the old cast.

That was the point of GB2.
RGB did things on way bigger a scale than GB2, but the real point was to see that cast again.

After 30 years, I'd like to see them together one last time.
...and maybe do voices in the cartoon one.
Maybe have Maurice LaMarche do Egon.

I won't hold my breath for it, but it would be nice.
