Halloween Part 8: "I'll send yah to the bone yaaahhd!!".

Here we are again!
Two more years 'til ten!!
Hopefully, the power and internet will stay on, and let me post on actual Halloween.
Update:
IT DID! HOORAY!!

Previous years yet again...

As I stated last year, I'm not doing the big Halloween thing anymore, but, enough horror movie related stuff happens throughout the year for me to link back to, so there's all that...

And finally, song time!!

Have you seen the ghost of John?

And, as always...

Merry Deathmas!
And a happy new candy! :-D

Next year, Mad Scientist Junk Drawer!

Pop culture updates #15.

Finally some trickles of Ghostbusters!

First, updates on...

Ghostbusters World (2018)

From here...

Erik Burnham who draws the comics says he worked on it.

He's already incorporated the '09 game, and "Sanctum Of Slime", into the comic, so I bet this gets integrated.
Hell, I bet the "Ghostbusters 101", premise of ghostbusting students was a setup all along to canonize the players as characters.
Just my theory, anyway.

We'll see how this works its way into canon (or not), and if the game is a hit.
Hell, if they can make a fucking Emoji movie, then why can't this be a nudge towards the GB animated film?
Again, we'll see.

Yep, its canon!!

There's a story mode, and it uses the likenesses of the classic characters from the comic book.
That's Ray above.
In case you can't make out the word balloon in that image, Ray is saying..

"Tell us what you know!
Is it Tiamat?
A new incarnation of Ivo Shandor?
Another child of Koza Rai?
Talk!"

Tiamat is from the comics.
Ivo Shandor materialized in the '09 video game.
Koza Rai is from the comics.
And, the ghost he's badgering is the Grundel from RGB.

And if that isn't Easter egg-y enough...

You can wear the suits from GB1, GB2, or GB: ATC.

You can use the proton packs from GB1/GB2, GB:ATC, or RGB.

The ghost index is an upgraded version of Tobin's Spirit Guide.

...and the stores are dimension portals from the comic book.

SO, I'm gonna take a wild stab, and say GB World is going to fold back into the comics for the next storyline.
Whether they do or don't, its already pretty damned canon just by existing.

And THEN, this just dropped today...

Ghostbusters/Men In Black (2019)

Finally!!
Oh....but its a board game.
Video games can dance the edges of canon....but board games?

Well....Alien vs Predator was a comic, then action figures, THEN a video game, THEN a movie.

So....this can get the idea out there, and get the ball rolling towards something canon.

Worth commenting on, anyway.

Have a feeling this'll be an IDW storyline someday too.

And, that's those.
See you next time.

Pop culture updates #14.

Joe Bob is back on TV!!! ....kinda.

From here...

MonsterVision (1991-2000)

With Joe Bob Briggs!!
8 times out of 10, his hosting segments were better than the flick.

He also did the second commentary for "I Spit On Your Grave", which is awesome.

He's still around, doing magazine articles, interviews, live drive-in shows, and the occasional commentary track or two.

But I miss this goddamned show.
Goddammit.

Well, Monstervision is back, but now it's called...

The Last Drive-In (2018-???)

...but its on streaming.
Specifically, Shudder.
Another goddamned service/channel you have to buy.

But, at least it exists.

So, there's that 90's update.
Geez, Twin Peaks, X-Files, Roseanne, Daria, Captain Picard, just when I was crying about the good stuff of the 90's being gone, it all starts coming back.

I should see what else I can cry about, see what happens.

Please bring back Obama...please bring back Obama...pleeeeeaase bring back Obamaaa!!!
Shit, he was 00's.
Well, doesn't hurt to try.

Pop culture updates #13.

More thin trickles out of Star Trek...

Star Trek: Lower Decks (2019??)

It'll be a new animated series, be a comedy, and be on the CBS streaming service (where they're gonna shove all the new Trek stuff forever now, I guess), and "will follow the support crew serving on one of Starfleet’s least-important ships".
Sounds like they want to compete with "The Orville".

More details, but not much more.

So, there's that, and the untitled return of Picard series.
That's two out of the four things they (vaguely) said were coming.
There was a vague animated series that this report fleshes out, a "Wrath Of Khan", prequel miniseries set in the years between "Space Seed", and "Wrath Of Khan", a Starfleet Academy series, and a mystery limited series which might be the Picard thing, or might be something else.

Two down, two to go.
...or three.
*Shrug*

Pop culture updates #12.

Parts 1-11.

An update from a franchise I thought long dead.

Army Of Darkness/ Bubba Ho-Tep (2019)

Yep, Ash vs Elvis!!
From Dynamite comics.
Comes out February of next year.

More info.

Previously with Evil Dead....

From the "Bubba Ho-Tep", review in the first link....

Anyway, why I count this as a sorta-Evil Dead will be explained later...

And from the "My Name Is Bruce", review from the same link...

Why I count it as Evil Dead 4, well, if "New Nightmare", is set in the real world, and counts as Freddy 7, then surely, this counts as a backdoor Evil Dead 4.

And, it has reference to "Bubba Ho-Tep", and "Make Love!", so, I throw those in the cauldron too.

Well, "Ash vs Evil Dead", counts as Evil Dead 4-12, so Bubba really is ED 3.5 now!!

OH!! Almost forgot!

The long languishing "Bubba-Nosferatu", sequel/prequel that got lost forever in Development Hell is coming out as comic books (by the writer of the movie!!) under the title...

Bubba Ho-Tep and the
Cosmic Bloodsuckers (2018-2019)

Bada-boom, bada-bing!!

Oh, and they settled on it's a prequel.

Now they just have to tie all this into "Death House", somehow.

Anyway, that's all that.

On apologies.

“Never apologize and never explain—it's a sign of weakness.”
-John Wayne
"She Wore a Yellow Ribbon".

I heard that line on TCM one day some years ago, and it made me go "WTF?!?!", cuz it just didn't make any sense to me as anything but assholism.
There's no way I could process it that made it a cool line, or wise advice, or whatever the fuck it was trying to be.

Here's my problem with the logic.

If you never apologize, you never acknowledge mistakes.

If you never acknowledge mistakes, you can never fix mistakes.

If you never fix mistakes, you're just planning on being a shitty fuckup forever, and announcing it to the world.

If you're going to announce to the world that you plan on being a shitty fuckup, then you had best never bitch about other people's fuckups, and you damned well had best not expect apologies from them.

When people DO fuck up, and don't apologize for it, then logically, you must respect them as strong willed.

So, this ultimately forces you to admire assholes like Trump.
He constantly fucks up, and never apologizes.

But, Trump is a pathetic whiner about other people.
His tweets are oozing with butt-hurt.
So, Trump admirers are rampaging hypocrites.
And so is Trump.
But, we knew that.

And John Wayne was a hypocrite, in real life, he was as dumb as Archie Bunker, and complained bitterly about hippies.
Straw man versions of 'em anyway.
Drunkenly.
If he'd been around for Twitter, he'd sound pretty much like Trump.
Maybe he'd spell better, that's about it.

So, fuck that happy horseshit, you have to clean up your fucking messes, and learn, and grow, and evolve.
Trying to be a stubborn rock doesn't make you strong, it only makes you a fucking blockhead.
Like the Trump-ublicans.
That's the endgame.
That's where you end up.

Screw John Wayne, and screw Frank S. Nugent for writing that dopey line.

And don't get your philosophy from goddamned cowboy movies.
Read a goddamned book.
No wonder this country is the way it is right now.
Holy shit.

Big 2018 Movies Part 12.

*Piano key tapping*

Halloween (2018)

Previously with the Halloween franchise...

And, let's get right to the rundown..
  • I dug it.
  • It repaired a LOT of the damage to the franchise.
  • Yes, fellow Halloween 3 fans, they slipped the Silver Shamrock masks in there!
  • Jamie Lee is basically T2 Sarah Connor. I mean that as a positive.
  • ...oh, shit, I'm just thinking of different ways to interpret the ending..okay, that just shot it up an extra star!
  • There's a twist involving a heel turn you probably won't see coming.
  • As implied above, the ending is a twist if you look at it the right way.
  • Yeah, this fixed Halloween for me, I want to own 1, 2, H20, and this.
  • ...I'm not gaga for it, or this franchise overall though, I'm still a Freddy Krueger and Hannibal Lecter guy.
  • For this franchise, and what it is, easily the best since the first.
  • If you're a nut for this franchise, you should get your ticket's worth.
  • Glad I saw it. As far as I can recall, this is the first ever reboot-quel, so that's movie history.
  • I hope they stop here though. *Sigh* They won't.

So, that's that.

Next time, Into The Spider-Verse, and Aquaman.
And...I MIGHT squeeze in "The Girl In The Spider's Web", before that.

The great big geek documentary compilation!!

Here they all are in one place at last!!!!!
The nerdy comic/movie documentaries I own!

Crumb (1994)

See here.

Y'know, just like how I've outgrown my Howard Stern phase, Robert Crumb doesn't do it for me anymore.
Now I just see him as a misogynist creep who needs to be back-handed.
Still a well done documentary though, and a window into the underground comics scene of the 60's.
And it ties into "Comic Book Confidential", and "30 Years Of Garbage".

Comic Book Confidential (1988)

See here.

Comic Book Superheroes Unmasked (2003)

See here.

Look, Up in the Sky!
The Amazing Story of Superman (2006)

See here.

Stan Lee's Mutants, Monsters & Marvels (2002)

See here.

30 Years Of Garbage:
The Garbage Pail Kids Story (2018)

See here.

What Remains: The Life and Work of Sally Mann (2005)

See here.

Oh! Update! I've long since gotten Ovation back by getting expanded digital cable for the HD for the HD-TV.
And....it's still technically dead, because all the weird artsy-fartsy stuff I like has been replaced with old Hollywood movies I can see fucking anywhere.
Godammit.

Goya: Crazy Like a Genius (2007)

See here.

POPaganda:
The Art & Crimes of Ron English (2005)

See here.

King Dong:
The Moron Movies Of Len Cella (2011)

Only 23 minutes long, and free to watch on Youtube.
About the director/writer/star of "Moron Movies", and "More Moron Movies", a collection of goofy and wacky skits done on a zero budget with household objects and thrift store junk for props.
Something anyone can do, but no one can do it like Len Cella.
He's a goddamned genius.
Google him.

The Aristocrats (2005)

See here.

Satiristas:
Comedians, Contrarians,
Raconteurs & Vulgarians (2010)

See here.

Yeah, it's a book, but what the Hell?
It's pretty much Aristocrats 2 on paper.
And it has George Carlin's last interview.
And Robin Williams before he died.
And Roseanne before she went fucking insane.
It's a time capsule of a lot of cool people you'll want to remember in a better way.

This Film Is not Yet Rated (2006)

I always forget I have this, so I always forget to review it.
Now's the time.

Pretty much tears the MPAA to shreds with a diamond chainsaw.
Shows them to be the corrupt, petty, obsolete, hypocritical, ridiculous, unconstitutional, bullshit censorship organisation that they really fucking are.

As a result, this thing is hard to find now.
Hard to find cheap, anyway.
Good hunting.

Bravo's 100 Scary Movie Moments (2004),
Bravo's 30 Even Scarier Movie Moments (2006),
Bravo's 13 Scarier Movie Moments (2009).

See here.

Not only did I watch and review every goddamned one of those movies, I got the docs too!
The sorta-prequel/inspiration for "Never Sleep Again".

Never Sleep Again (2010)
I Am Nancy (2011)

See here.

Slash Of The Titans (2017)
(The Road To Freddy vs Jason)

See here.

Yeah, it's another book, but screw it.
It's Never Sleep Again 2 on paper.

It's out right now.
Troma helped put it out.
I don't have it yet.
As with "Scream, Queen", when I get it, I'll retro link it...

Here.

That Guy Dick Miller (2014)

See here.

Same as "VHS Massacre", it's out, but I don't have it yet.
If/when I get it, I'll retro link it...

Here.

The "maybe", column-

The Death of "Superman Lives",
what happened? (2015)

See here, and here.

Out to buy, been out awhile, but only off of its website.
And my lazy ass prefers Amazon.
BUT, if/when I do get it, I'll retro-link it...

Here.

Invaluable:
The True Story of an Epic Artist (2014)

See here.

Same as "The Death Of Superman Lives", out to buy, but only off the website.
If/when I get it, I'll retro-link it...

Here.

Out, but out of reach-

Doomed:
The Untold Story of Roger Corman's The Fantastic Four (2015)

See here.

Out, but only on streaming.

Update-
Saw it!!

Why Horror? (2014)

See here.

Out, but only on streaming.

You're So Cool, Brewster:
The Story Of Fright Night (2015)

See here.

Out, but only on streaming.

Plastic Movies Rewound:
The Story of the '80s Home Video Boom
(2014)

See here.

Ended up a whole miniseries instead of a movie.
Has Len Cella in a segment (see "King Dong", above).
Out, but only on streaming.

Coming soon-

RoboDoc:
The Creation of Robocop (20??)

As the title implies.
About Robocop.
They've got every single actor in it but Peter Weller, but they've got enough archival interviews, and his blessing, so he'll effectively be in it.

Pennywise: The Story of IT (20??)

As the title implies, about IT.
Specifically, the 1990 two-part miniseries.
Tim Curry is involved.

So, that's all of 'em for now.
Hopefully, there'll be some pleasant updates in the next couple years.
Stay tuned!!
