Y'know, I've suddenly gained a new respect for Ronald Reagan....
...yeah, you heard me, Ronald Reagan.
I mean, sure, I didn't agree with him on...anything that springs immediately to mind...domestically anyway...
BUT, one thing that jumps out at me, especially now, is this.
Here's a guy, who took a devastator bullet to the guts,...and the country didn't change a whit for it.
He kept his cool about the whole thing.
Contrast that with Italy's Silvio Berlusconi.
Takes one little statue to the face, and he totally loses his shit, and wants to make protest illegal, and crack down on websites that say mean things about him.
Y'know, crush free speech, and install Big Brother 2.0.
So, I guess my Italian friends won't be reading this blog soon, cuz here comes the ridicule.
Berlusconi, you fucking blood belching pusslip.
Take a statue-ing like a man.
You screeching little girl's blouse.
What is it about tyrants?
They're all such pussies.
A punch, a joke, an insult, even the most meticulously framed constructive criticism, they can't take anything.
Anything.
They're like fucking 4 year olds.
I hope your citizens rise up, with assloads of ruthless grinding parody that powderizes your bones, you silly little bitch.
Our presidents can take DEVASTATOR BULLETS!!
And you're sniffling about a temporary bout with statue face?
I thought you Italians were so much more macho than us.
Way to drag your country's image down.
Hey, there's another reason for the citizenry to rise up.
I mean Italy's butch scale is rocketing downward.
It totally didn't deserve that.
You pip-squeaking ass.
...so, think I've said enough to be banned in Italy yet?
Or y'think he banned Babelfish already?

I hope you realize Berlusconi owns or has control of nearly all the media in Italy (and most of the commercial media he doesn't own, his family does!).
Print, TV, books, advertising? Doesn't matter. They're under his thumb, and he does his best to squash any competition. He doesn't get to all of them, but he's successful at it more often than not.
And that's not all! This scumbag has openly used the government to allow him to own greater percentages of media markets (see Gaspari Law of 2004).
In the past, he's pushed through broad and draconian copyright protection law (see the Urbani decree, again of 2004). He also levied higher taxes on all data storage devices that raised their prices 60%, purportedly to reduce digital piracy. I know the Urbani decree was overturned; I'll have to check about the piracy tax. I know it caused the hard drive market in Italy to plummet, I think sales went down 30 or 40%.
Did I mention he now controls one of Italy's ISPs, via the Poste Italiane, the government-run post office?
So given Berluscon's history, his reach, his ruthlessness, and his pettiness, if he wants to shut down dissent of any kind, he might just pull it off. His stranglehold on the media will mean most Italians will see or read only his side and therefore support the move.
Revolution in the streets? Good luck getting Italians to do that if it's not about their benefits, or a chance to diss other nations. Listen, 47% of voters in the 2008 election put this fucker back in power, after they voted him out in 2006! What does that tell you? That the Italians who aren't self-serving cynics are a bunch of mouth-breathing, religion-poisoned idiots? Ding ding ding! We have a winner!
Honestly, I don't get how anybody could think this megalomaniac needed control of anything beyond enough time alone with a meter's length of rope and a plastic bag just bigger than his head.
Oh, and don't think too highly of Reagan. He doesn't deserve it, first of all, and second of all, the mess we're in now with the Religious Right might have been averted if he hadn't gotten so much sympathy after the assassination attempt. The poisonous depths of glorified stupid we're cursed with now is all thanks to his influence.
This fucker and especially the gang of thugs around him knew how to milk public sympathy to serve their own twisted ends.
I can only imagine how bad things would be now if the senile old twat had died from that.
:::Shudder::::
Aquaria-
Well, thanks for the info.
Hmmm, religion poisoned Berlusconi voters, religion poisoned Reagan voters, I see a pattern....
Yeah, thanks for the history lesson, but you'll note by the title it was meant snarkily.
The whole exercise was to throw poo-poo at Berlusconi to exercise my 1st amendment rights.
I dunno, as awful as I found Reagan to be, I always got the sense he was a starry-eyed idealistic dope who BELIEVED the horseshit he shoveled on TV, and it was that "gang of thugs", around him twirling their mustaches.
So yeah, it would've been worse if he'd croaked, cuz they would've had free reign, and would've been naked about their fascism, like...well...Berlusconi.
Politics, it's all horrible.
Revisited.
