The Sony/MCU deal 10 years later.

Well, 9 and some change since the ink dried on the contract, but close enough.

Let's go all the way back to "Sony-Spidey cinematic universe updates (Part 4)".
I had vague predictions, and now I can fill in the details....

All right, so here's the deal....

Sony got hacked, their inter-office E-mails got leaked, and the Sony/Marvel Spidey/Avengers deal was indeed a real thing.

BUT, nothing came of it.
They wanted more creative control over Spidey than Marvel was willing to give, even though Marvel was willing to split the profits 60/40.

BUT, after the leaks, the higher-HIGHER ups at Sony Japan, bleeding from the ass over the hacks, now want the deal to go through, and are willing to let Marvel make them squeal like piggies to get the tattered Spidey franchise off their hands.

Well, no, MCU didn't get Spidey, they had to share him, and they still have to.
There's new rumors Sony wants to unload the Spidey-verse on Disney, but Sony made a couple billion off their joint productions, so...I'm calling fan-fantasy bullshit.
It looks like fan-fantasy was infecting the rumor mill back then too.

SOOO, this would mean a re-reboot of Spidey into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, no more Andrew Garfield, and "Venom", "Glass Ceiling", "Aunt May", and "Sinister-Six", being dead as a doornail.

Okay, this I have to break down....

SOOO, this would mean a re-reboot of Spidey into the Marvel Cinematic Universe...

no more Andrew Garfield

Short term, yes.
Long term, he came back.

and "Venom", "Glass Ceiling", "Aunt May", and "Sinister-Six", being dead as a doornail.

"Venom" got made, and spawned an MCU-connected sub-universe.

"Glass Ceiling" became "Madame Web" as part of the Venom-verse, and bombed.

"Aunt May" movie is dead...but I thought Glass Ceiling/Madame Web was dead, so don't count anything out.

"Sinister Six" seems to be the desired endgame for the Venom-verse, but I dunno if they're going to make it to that finish line.
"Morbius" and "Madame Web" were flops and "Kraven" looks like more of the same.
Dunno how long they can afford throwing good money after bad in that sub-franchise.

BUT, it also leaves Marvel floundering where to put Spidey.
He'd be a natural for "Civil War", because he was heavily involved in that arc in the comics, but the script for that film is a lock (although, seems to me, filming a little cameo scene, and cutting it into the film wouldn't be an extraordinary measure).

They could certainly get him into "Infinity War".

Keep in mind, the deal hasn't gone through yet, and shit could still happen, but that's where it is right now.

The one total surprise has been the Spider-verse/Miles-verse movies.
They've been the saving grace of the Sony-verse, and they came out of nowhere.

If not for them, I'd buy the "Sony wants to throw in the towel" rumors.
But with them in play, no fucking way.

So, that's it 10 years and 12 movies later.
Aside from a Morbius or a Madame Web here and there, its mostly brought us good stuff.
Some all-time classics, even.
Been a good ride.
