Cats & chickens, Part 7. All Chicken stories

And, there's the last little bit.

Leetle cheeckuns.

September 18, 2018

Well, I've got to apologize.
I used to say chickens only had enough brain power to keep their bodies fresh, but now that I have 4 for pets & eggs, they do have little personalities in 'em.

Chickens vs crickets.

September 23, 2018

Cricket 1- Ah, don't worry. Those silly chickens stay in their yard, they won't get us out here in the woods hiding under dead leaves.

Cricket 2- OH shit!!!! Here they come!!

Cricket 1- Jesus, no!!! AHHH!!!!!!!

Bumblefoot.

November 15, 2019

Had to help perform some improvised home bumblefoot surgery on Daisy.
That...wasn't pleasant. 🙁

"Bumblefoot" = a common foot infection in chickens.
You have to cut the swelling open, squeeze out the hardened corn kernels of pus, and drown it with antibiotics.
Gotta be done, or the infection spreads, and they die.
That poor bird twitching in agony is gonna be in my dreams.

Bumblefoot recovery.

November 18, 2019

Daisy's poor little foot has healed all back together already!
She's like Wolverine!
Well, I needn't have worried then!

Cabbage punching bag.

January 11, 2020

I saw a thing somewhere that chickens like to play with a cabbage hung up like a punching bag.
Well, we tried it, and our little dummies are scared of it.
They think it's an alien, or something.

Chicken dirt bath.

April 5, 2019

Hens taking a dirt bath looks like cutlets in breadcrumbs, but the hand rolling them is invisible.
Bizarre.

Daisy died.

March 11, 2021

Well shit, Daisy (the hen) died.
She's been off-and-on sick all of 2020 to now.
Hell, I think it was even a bit of 2019 now that I think of it.
She finally succumbed to whatever she had.
*Digs around* yeah, she was the one with bumblefoot that I had to operate on.
She hung on for 2 years after that.
*Sad sigh*
