Star Wars: Benioff & Weiss trilogy is dead.

Meedyah Morsels #165

Yep, kiss that goodbye.

They bailed out because of the scheduling conflict with their big Netflix contract.
This was kinda doomed to happen.

On some level, this de-complicates things, now that there aren't three trilogies competing with each other, but it also complicates things.

Like, what's going to come out in 2022, 2024, an 2026 now?
These were the ones lined up.

Are they going back to the Rian Johnson trilogy?

Are they gonna beg Kevin Feige to expand his thing to three movies?

What about the "Knights Of The Old Republic", thing?
Was this the B&W thing, and that's dies too?
Or, is it the Rian Johnson thing?
Or the Feige thing?
Or, none of it, and it was just a fanboy wet dream?

*Sighs, head shake*
All this chaos and turmoil is why I wanna bail on this franchise after "Rise Of Skywalker".
Following the news on this shit is like getting dental work done.

Previously with MM-

Final "The Rise Of Skywalker", poster. (MM #164)

Hasn't it always been dental work, though? When HAVEN'T we heard of dozens of lame speculations about what was going to happen to Star Wars? "Leonardo DiCaprio is the new Anakin!!"

I wonder what it was really like, back between 1983 and like 1997 or thereabouts when there was 14 years of speculation about what the prequel trilogy would turn out to be, or whatever.

The Tom Hardy movie "Locke" is pretty trite. Skip it. I also watched the old French classic "Diabolique" and found it boring and talky except for its classic twist ending.

Um, I lived through those years, so I can actually tell ya.

83-90, dead silence. The machine went stone cold, and collected cobwebs.

91-93, just the vaguest bare-bones rumors of prequels.

94-95, they were gonna be the ones with Kenneth Branagh as Obi-Wan, Dicaprio as Anakin, and Frank Darabont directing from Lucas's scripts.

96-97, the special editions fucked up the timeline.

98-99, the prequels as we know them took shape.

00-05- Only dumb title rumors for each one.

Oh, and there was a rumor that what made Anakin snap was going to be romantic jealousy between Anakin, Obi, and Padme.

Lucas said this was bullshit, but then the DVD of Sith comes out, and it's pretty clear that was a thread through the thing that got cut out.

Some rumors were true, but Lucas edits, and lies.

Speaking of Lucasfilm lies, Ewan McGregor just admitted he knew all along he was doing the Obi-Wan spinoff either as a movie or a show (it ended up being a show) and he was lying all along.

I wonder how many people would have been happy between 1983 and 1990 to have just let Star Wars lay dead. I mean, think how many fanboys hate both the prequel trilogy AND "The Last Jedi" but love TFA for just being the original SW again.

I remember the fake titles for the prequels. "The Rise Of The Empire" and "The Fall Of The Jedi." And Gregory Hines and Christopher Walken as Darths. "Darth Detori"? Shit.

I saw McGregor admitting that he'd lied, too. Silly. Taking a cue from Ridley Scott, eh? ("We're not going to see the xenomorph in Prometheus!")

I didn't know that DiCaprio was rumored for Anakin before Titanic came out.

Don't forget "Veil Of The Sith"!
There was a whole podcast with the fake tipster for that one!

Walken was plausible, he was almost Han Solo.

Before Titanic?
*Has to Google*
That's about right, Lucas and Cameron have been in a shit flinging match for awhile.
It may have started there.
