There's an alien that looks like a human who calls himself "The Doctor". He flies around in a stolen spaceship (that's also a time machine) called the TARDIS. It's the size of a phone booth on the outside, and the Battlestar Galactica on the inside (although, you only ever see the control room anyway). Why does TARDIS look like a phone booth? It has a shape-shifting camouflage ability, but it broke in the very first episode, and it's been a phone booth ever since. Now, it's tradition. When he dies, instead of decomposing, his cells jumble all around, and he turns into a whole new guy. This is how they justify re-casting him. He has 12 of these lives, and right now he's on his 11th. Although, the show producers are keen to break this numbering rule anyway. Since the TARDIS is a time machine, his regenerative selves have sometimes met each other, and teamed up. The 50th anniversary is one such episode. The 10th, 11th, a missing previously unheard of 8.5, and rumors of others.
