Happy 33rd anniversary, The Empire Strikes Back.
See here.
Yep, the one good pure one.
The original SW, Lucas stumble-bummed into success with the help of his editors (including his ex-wife), and ILM, and John Williams, and James Earl Jones.
Jedi, was ostensibly directed by Richard Marquand, but Lucas the control freak stole it from him, and...we need not go over that one's flaws, the "Family Guy", special does that well enough.
Empire is fucking perfect.
Indisputably perfect.
We miss you, Irvin Kershner.
*Sigh* I feel like listening to his director's commentary, and weeping.

To show how absolutely tone-deaf Lucas was with HIS OWN material: when Harrison Ford suggested "I know" as the response to Princess Leia's "I love you" in the carbon freezing scene, everybody loved it, thought it was funny, and believed it to be perfectly consistent with Solo's character...except George Lucas, who thought "I love you, too" was a much better line.
