Liking Don Giovanni because of the recitative is like liking music period because of notes, or dessert because it’s food.

Yeah, of course. Music is my heart and soul - no, sorry, that should read my meat and potatoes. I like to have conversations about music, but quite often, when people find out that I am a musician, I get comments like "Oh, I love such and such, so and so was a genius." So what? I'm glad they enjoy, but I just don't want to participate in that kind of conversation.
