I didn't do nothin' but that, and neglected my shopping.
So! Here's the first burst of that!
Got these on the 10th.
The Frank Darabont Collection (2014)
Being a collection of...
-The Majestic
I said back here...
I really have to get around to owning Shawshank and Green Mile.
So!! Got 'em!!
To put with my other Stephen Kings.
I've pretty much got all the all time greats.
Think I'm only missing "Misery" and "Delores Claiborne" now.
The bonuses are plentiful.
I actually got burnt out on the "Green Mile" stuff.
I cured the burnout by switching to "The Majestic" (it's not a Stephen King, BTW).
I was skeptical of "The Majestic" and it had a hard time winning me over at first, but about halfway in, it had its hooks in, and by the end, I was tear-jerking.
It got me.
I dunno why I didn't trust Darabont to deliver the goods with that one.
Flashing back, I had a virtually identical experience the first time I saw "Green Mile".
Then "Green Mile" had me bawling, and snotting.
"Majestic" is very relevant now. It's anti-blacklisting/McCarthyism; and make no mistake, McCarthyism was fascism.
We're doing it all over again.
Insecure control-freak bullies always go full fash eventually.
The older I get, and the more brutal life gets, the more "Shawshank" resonates for me.
Oh, neat tidbit in the "Green Mile" bonuses. Darabont mentions that Richard Matheson is Stephen King's idol.
*Closes eyes, and plays clips of their respective movies in my head*
Yeah, I can see it! Totally.
Got the set for "Shawshank" and "Mile" then "Majestic" was a nice little surprise.
Maus I (1986)
Maus II (1991)
Figured I had to grab and read this before the Nazis ban and burn it.
They already want it out of schools all the way up to grade 12.
Banning an anti-Nazi book of real holocaust experiences?
Not a good look. They don't seem to care.
When you point it out, they react like Hal Holbrook in "The Majestic" Screaming, and banging a gavel.
Well, I've got it, anyway. Now to get it downloaded into my head.
Star Trek: Lower Decks, season 5 (2024)
Like I said in that review, the last season of the first burst of new-era Trek.
Now I've got it collected in my cabinet.
Now, Strange New Worlds, Starfleet Academy, and Untitled Series 12 will be new-new era.
Looking back, the LD finale is among the best finales.
Up there with TNG and DS9.
Aaaand, I think you can put LD among the best Trek shows.
I'd damned near put it in a tie with TNG. Yeah. Easily.
And remember when I said 5 wasn't as good as 4 until the finale?
I'd put it at this > < much.
It wasn't a huge dropoff. Still pretty fucking good.
So, that's those!
Stay tuned for my full review of Maus.
