Kee-rist, there hasn't been any movement on this since my post "The Mutants! (?)" three friggin' years ago.
Okay! First, the movie.
They've got a screenwriter.
Michael Lesslie, who did “The Hunger Games: The Ballad Of Songbirds & Snakes” and “Now You See Me 3”.
So, an actual nudge of movement has happened.
Next up: a director, and then actors.
We likely won't see this thing until after "Secret Wars" when the MCU gets rebooted "Crisis On Infinite Earths" style.
Now, where X-Men stands with Disney right now....
X-Men animated is back as "X-Men '97" and picks right up where the 90's one left off.
It's their most popular Marvel related show ever.
People are apeshit over it.
Some speculate animated X-Men will cross into the MCU, and become the new rebooted X-Men; some think at least animated Wolverine will become the one in "Deadpool & Wolverine".
Whichever is the case, or even if neither is the case, Disney/Marvel has seemingly come down on the side of them being called X-Men.
If reboot-X-Men is "The Mutants" after all this, I'd be shocked.
IMHO, it should be "X-Men (subtitle)" like "Spider-Man: Homecoming".
