Previously-
I said in part 2...
And, that's where Star Wars is at, and where I'm at in 2020.
I might do another one of these when the movies start coming out again, whatever they're going to be.
See you then!
So! Here we are! Now that Wars is back in the theater, let's take another look back.
But, let's confine it to live-action video media.
If you want all the other stuff, that's in the last two; check those out.
Classic trilogy.
My mother made me a ceramic spaceship night light with an R2-D2 next to it, and a Star Wars fanfare music box inside. The old-timey crank clockwork style music box. I think I was 5 or 6.
My Siamese cat we had then smashed the night light in a temper tantrum when I was 10.
We salvaged the music box.
I recently found it while digging around in Ma's stuff.
I have it next to my desk now.
For Empire; I had Slave-1 (Boba's ship) with a frozen Han inside.
That was cool. They actually did a really cool sculpt for frozen Han.
Kenner's figure sculpting was 50-50 until the 90's.
For Jedi; 8 year old me thought they should have a Vader/Anakin with a removable helmet.
They did ones of Stormtrooper disguise Han & Luke, and Boush disguise Lea.
They finally did one when I was in my 30's.
Kee-rist.
Hmm, I said this would be about movies; how to make toys about the movies?
Spaceballs.
Spaceballs made fun of the toys.
There you go.
Prequel trilogy.
As predicted by me back when they came out, Gen-Z and Gen-Alpha are discovering and loving them.
And the millennials that grew up on them are re-discovering and loving them.
There's naturally still some sour-pusses in that age cohort.
Mostly CHUDs.
For me, the films are still a mixed bag up until "Sith".
Here's my revisits on those.
Sequel trilogy.
"Rise" had its weaknesses, but overall, I love these ones.
TV has been playing the prequels, originals, and these on FX as a commercial for "Mando & Grogu".
I still think "Last Jedi" is fucking excellent for the bold chances it took.
Oh, and "Awakens" turned 10.
Spinoff movies.
Yep, these are a trilogy now.
But "Starfighter" is gonna fuck that up.
Well, then they'll have to just make two more to make it two trilogies.
-Solo
The all-TV era.
There was good stuff in here, but I don't at all see why Disney put all their eggs in this basket for 7 years.
I gave them the benefit of the doubt that some big secret would come out that justified this choice, but it just looks like cowardice.
Or stupidity, thinking they could turn Wars into Trek.
Trek works better on TV; Wars works better in theaters.
You can alchemy-morph one into the other, but you get an explosion in your face if you don't know what you're doing.
Christ, the way "Acolyte" was received, you'd think Kathleen Kennedy re-raped everyone in the Epstein files, or started the Iran War. Get a fucking grip, people.
Anyway, here's all that...
-The Acolyte (didn't watch)
-Andor (didn't finish)
The stretch where I just got sick of it.
BUT!! "Mando/Grogu" was smelling salts, and I'm back in the fight.
For now.
See you again a couple flicks from now.
