Meedyah Morsels #208.
Its been awhile for updating this one too!
Okay, first, the ship is the La Sirena.
Which translates to either Mermaid's Tail, or The Siren.
Damn, it took 3 episodes to get to the hero ship of the goddamned show!
Well, it took a couple for Discovery to get ON the Discovery, so this is nuTrek's thing now, is to drag out the backstory before getting down to business.
So, our ships are..
ENT = Enterprise
DIS = Discovery
TOS = Enterprise
TNG = Enterprise
DS9 = Defiant
VOY = Voyager
PIC = La Sirena
LD = Cerritos
Now, the character stuff...
Remember when I said to take the leaked character sheet, and throw it away?
Well, it wasn't so wrong after all!
Time to pull it out of the wastebasket, un-crumple it, and smooth it out.
Santiago Cabrera as Cristobal ‘Chris’ Rios.
Captain of the La Sirena.
Remember when I predicted he'd be "Dr Smith"?
Here's the description..
Dr. Smith: a male in his 30s or 40s of any ethnicity. From the description, it sounds like he’s an upgraded or wholly new version of the EMH. He’s described as a hologram who helps the crew through emergencies encompassing engineering, tactical, science investigation, and medical issues. He was programmed to learn but not become too self-aware. He’s calm, efficient, and empathic, but he sometimes has difficulties sorting out others emotional reactions to get at the facts.
Well, guess what? I wasn't wrong!
Rios bases his EMH on himself, so he plays both roles!
Rios himself more closely resembles "Lawrence".
Lawrence: a handsome man in his 30’s of any ethnicity. . . who has a dodgy moral compass. He’s the pilot of the ship Picard takes on his mission. Being a capable (and enthusiastic) thief, his loyalties are questionable.
Evan Evangora as Elnor.
Hasn't shown up yet, but I'm guessing he's "K'Bar".
K’Bar: the youngest of the leads. He’s a 17-year-old Romulan and the only child of what’s a mainly female Spiritual Order. A martial artist and considered a lethal weapon, he’s prone to mood swings and is committed to living in the moment with as much transparency as possible. He takes his devotion to Picard and his mission EXTREMELY seriously. . . obviously, they’re looking to find someone with Martial Arts experience, but also note that fencing is a plus as well.
Michelle Hurd as Raffi Musiker.
Captain/Admiral Picard's second in command after Riker left to be Captain of the Titan.
*Spoilers*
Picard tried to assemble an armada to evacuate Romulus when it blew up in Star Trek '09.
Starfleet wouldn't let him.
He said let him, or accept his resignation, thinking they'd blink, but they let him resign.
Musiker went down with him, and ended up destitute, and a smoker of alien-space-pot.
Picard convinces her to join him on this new mission.
She needs a lot of prodding though, cuz she's bitter.
SO, she resembles "Alana", and I predicted that one right!
Alana: a female in her mid-40s to mid-50s and is of any ethnicity. She’s a brilliant analyst and has a great memory despite abusing drugs and alcohol. Often times she gets irritated with her own vulnerability and is certain of herself, even when she’s wrong. A former intelligence officer, she sees conspiracies everywhere. Her professional and personal losses weigh heavily on her.
Isa Briones as Dahj.
*Spoilers*
Data's daughter!
Kinda.
Data painted a painting of an imaginary daughter who popped up in his mind, then Maddox (from "Measure Of a Man") made Dahj based on the painting.
Data's dead.
He died in Nemesis.
B-4 didn't become a resurrected Data after all.
The download didn't take, and B-4 had a cascade failure, and died.
Dahj dies in episode 1, but she has a twin named Soji.
She doesn't know she's an android.
Maddox invented tech that lets you grow a whole positronic brain from a single neuron.
No more slapping the chips together, and crossing your fingers that you don't get a cascade collapse.
Also, Dahj and Soji are android brains in cloned human bodies.
And they have fake human memories.
So they're more like the replicants from Bladerunner.
SO, Dahj most closely resembles "Connie".
Connie: a female who is also in her early 30s. She’s African-American and has a quick temper, but is also quick to forgive. In addition to dealing with the loss of her husband, she is also avoiding a death sentence on her home planet. She’s a mercenary pilot who uses her ship to transport people to and from an artifact of some kind, though the ship is massively overqualified for that job.
And Soji resembles "Indira".
Indira: a female in her early 20s of any Ethnicity. She’s extremely smart and physically agile . . . but maybe not so mature and a bit socially challenged because she tries too hard. Her intelligence often gets in the way of her manners. She’s cut off from home and her difficult mission puts a strain on her maturity. She’s still “finding her way in the wider world".
I got Connie wrong, but I matched Isa Briones to Indira, and got that one right.
Harry Treadaway as Narek.
A bad-guy Romulan spy who's seducing and manipulating Soji.
He might pull a face-turn.
He's not on the character sheet.
This threw me off the scent for the rest.
Alison Pill as Dr. Agnes Jurati.
A cybernetics scientist who's out of a job after simulants (androids) were banned by Starfleet.
Clearly, a gender-swapped version of "Starton".
Starton: a male of any ethnicity in his early 30s. He specializes in positronic brains and is terrified of space. He’s charming in a self-deprecating way and is excited about the research opportunities on Picard’s mission. It goes on to say that his demeanor will evolve over the series, but it does not say in what way.
The gender-flip threw me off.
As did Narek not being there, as did Cabrera and Briones both playing dual roles.
Actually, triple roles for Cabrera.
He's Rios, the EMH, and the ENH, an Emerency Navigational Hologram.
Hey, I can be forgiven for fucking up when they went out of their way to blind me!!
Gotta say though, the changes make the show better.
