Ghostbusters: Afterlife toys!

Post 52 away from 3000 posts!

New York Toy Fair was yesterday, but I waited 'til today to make sure every little trickle dropped, so I wouldn't have to keep updating.

Previously with Ghostbusters toys...

Classic GB merch, 2016.

Okay, now the new stuff...

The "Fright Features", line.
Basically, the movie versions of the original guys stylized, and in the proportions of the old classic Kenner figures of the animated series guys.

How is this "Ghostbusters: Afterlife"?
I think their loophole is, the original guys are flashed back to in news footage.
Plus, there'll probably be other types of flashback.

Worth mentioning, cuz I don't think I brought it up here before, Kenner got bought by Hasbro, and Hasbro just got the Ghostbusters license last year from Mattel, so Hasbro getting it is basically Kenner getting it back.
Remember that, it'l be important later.

From the same line, Stay-Puft, Slimer, and Muncher.

Muncher being the ghost from the trailer.

As some mystery lurker person in comments pointed out, I called him "an inanimate matter muncher", so I nailed the name by accident.

In this close up, you can see he has a window in his belly, and in that window, you can see a stop sign, and a fire hydrant, so yes, I was also right about him eating the objects from the set photos.

So, that's 100% Afterlife related.

And here's Stay-Puft's secret "fright feature".
That being his guts turn into a sort of mouth.

Stay Puft and Slimer splitting open at the belly and the mouth imitates "haunted human", figures from the old Kenner line.
I'm not gonna go digging for which ones. If you're an 80's kid, you'll remember.

Here's a larger doll-sized Stay-Puft with a changeable face like Man-E-Faces from He-Man.

And here's the Ecto-1 that goes with the guys up top, and it has a gunner seat like from the trailer.
Its pretty much in almost identical proportion to the old 80's Ecto toy.

That makes me think, even though they didn't drop figures of Phoebe, Trevor, Callie, and Mr. Grooberson, that they probably will this summer in time for the movie, and that it'll be under this line.

Probably to prevent spoiler stuff.
Even though any old-time fan worth his/her salt will have already guessed the family are Spenglers.

So, stay tuned for those reveals.
When those drop, I'll cover it.

And now....*drumroll*..

The Kenner figures!!!!!
They're back!!

See here way back in 2011 for my old memories of those.
I arranged them in the new graphic here in the order I bought them when I was a kid.
The story behind that order is also in the link above.

So, yeah, you can get the Kenner guys, and put them in the new/old Ecto, and have it all back.
All that's missing is the firehouse, but I bet that comes back too.

Or, you can get them, and the new classic movie guys, and mix them together, and re-enact "Ghostbusters Get Real".

And here's Slimer and Stay-Puft off the old Kenner line, also back.
The 4 guys, and these two ghosts, that was the original series-one run.
Before they started adding all kinds of weird variants, and weirder ghosts.
This is where it all started.

Speaking of weird ghosts...

Ghost-Gushers.
They puke slime when you squeeze them.
And there's a collectible mini-ghost buried in the slime.
Yep, you always need slime toys in the line when you do Ghostbusters.
It's required.

Come in Slimer, Muncher, Stay-Puft, and Terror-Dog.
Muncher is all through these, I'm thinking he's gonna be a big deal in the flick.
Just a hunch.

Here's the refill slime/ectoplasm.

Comes in classic green, GB2 pink, orange, and blue, like the upcoming Twinkies.
Which convinces me even more we're getting blue slime in the film.
And maybe orange.

The Slime Lab playset, which you can see unfolds from a classic ghost trap, so it's a role-play toy too.
Kinda like what they did with the ATC trap playset.

Comes with slime, and a mini Muncher that pukes slime.
Again, I'm thinking he's important.

And here's key-chain plushies of Terror-Dog, Slimer, Stay-Puft, and you guessed it, Muncher.

That's all the cute versions.
Now the fancy-shmancy for collectors ones.

Here's movie accurate versions of the guys with meticulous detail on the packs, and tons of articulation points.
I've put them in the same order as the Kenner guys, because...just because.
They're called "Plasma Series".

And here's possessed Dana  and Gozer from the same line.

No idea if the Afterlife characters will come out in this style.
They should.

Oh, yeah, and just like the Mattel fancy figures came with a build-a-figure of the logo ghost, and the Mattel ATC girls came with one of Rowan, these come with pieces to build a Terror Dog.

I think that's got it for figures.
Now for the role-play stuff...

Here's the new proton pack.
Pretty much accurate in scale and colors to the old Kenner pack, but accurate in details to the original movie.
The pack and the wand/gun are sold separately, which is dumb.

Here's the wand/gun. They're calling it a "proton blaster", for Afterlife, I guess.
You can get it in generic, and with add-ons.

Here it is with all the add-ons.
Dunno if this is gonna happen in the movie, or if it's purely from the imaginations of the toy designers.

Finally, after 36 fucking years, a movie accurate toy PKE meter!
Not only was the Kenner one not movie accurate, it wasn't even cartoon accurate!
I dunno what the fuck it was!

A...*scratches head*...ghost whistle?
Apparently, you can attract ghosts like a duck call.
Again, dunno if this is something in the movie, or not.

And then, like mentioned above, the slime lab is your trap.

And finally, a proton blaster from the plasma series, so it's in meticulous movie accurate detail.

That's all the stuff normal humans get to buy.
The convention wrapped up with Ivan and Jason Reitman being given these..

Figures of themselves in the plasma series style in boxes that look like Tobin's Spirit Guide.
Neat.
Shame we didn't get a better look at the boxes.

And that was all of that.
Again, no Afterlife characters except Muncher.
I was waiting for that, and didn't get it.
Ah, well.
Next time.
Stay tuned.
