Previously...
I never set out for these to be a series; they just happen.
So, I said way the fuck back at "Covenant"....
Is it even worth looking forward to "Alien 7: How The Fuck Does This Mess Get Back Up To The First One?"?
Not for me.
I'm tapping out.
Bye!
Yeah, I'm re-upping that.
Romulus came out, and everyone I trust gave it a "meh, okay for what it is, but really just more of the same".
"Meh" ain't worth it for the theater ticket, and it definitely ain't worth premiere streaming rental, or buying on disk.
Especially, if I never bothered to get 3, 4, Prometheus, or Covenant.
I'll catch it on free TV someday.
It's a safe confident bet I won't be like "Awww!! I should have rented/bought it!!".
Oh, and "untitled Alien FX series" is now "Alien: Earth".
And its been bumped from FX to Hulu, and I'm not buying Hulu, so fuck you.
Sigourney Weaver really was the magic ingredient for these.
Not the monsters, and not the "God is an ancient astronaut" stuff.
Again, this is something Hainish-verse already did better anyway.
And "Rocannon's World" even has creepy bird men that function like the Xenomorphs, so it has that too.
"Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" has also basically ret-conned the Gorn into Xenomorphs, and their handling of them is more interesting than the Alien franchise.
What do I need Alien for then?
For Ridley Scott to someday wrap up his Prometheus trilogy?
He's not gonna. He's got 50 other movies in his pipeline, and he's in his 80's.
Kiss that plotline goodbye.
And finally, to make this thing society commentary, I'm sick to fucking death of CHUDs pulling out the "I'm not sexist!! I like Ripley from Alien!!" card.
Ripley is the new "I have a black friend" for misogynists.
Bullshit. If "Alien" and "Aliens" came out now with the internet CHUD-o-sphere, you damned well know those raging imbeciles would be ripping their hair out like Larry the Stooge.
It's a dodge.
It's a tactic.
Don't fall for it.
They're the same woman-hating psychos from "Alien 3".
They can't wait to vote for Trump for that nation-wide abortion ban.
So, yeah.
Just like Star Wars, I'm out, because I have better substitutes.
I still love the first two, and I like what Prometheus and Covenant were trying to do.
But yeah.
