I wanna do one about canonizing the remaining Marvel films, but this side-topic of Punisher is nagging at me, so I'll make it separate, and link it.
So, here's my old reviews of the films...

With all the atrocities and lies I've bore witness to the last couple decades, I'm fully anti-war.
With all the mass shooting victims that have piled up since Columbine, I'm fully anti-gun.
I covered my thoughts on violent superheroes here December of last year, and that feels like an eternity ago.
Since then, the whole TERF saga happened.
And during that, the instigating shit-head tried to insinuate I'm an Antifa apologist if not an outright fanboy, and I think he may have gotten it from remarks in that ramble.
No, I'm pacifist, I'm against all political violence.
I'm not pro-Antifa, I'm anti the right-wing's hypocrisy.
They wallow in a pit of violence gravy 24/7, and fantasize about murdering every brown person and liberal they can get their pudgy hands on, then squeal like a pig when an Antifa so much as throws a milkshake at them.
Violence begets violence, assholes.
Learn the Ghandi lesson, or shut the fuck up.
You want to be strutting thugs, pushback is your admission price.
Meatheads.
Some of our world leaders could stand to learn that shit too.
Get to the goddamned peace table already.

So, as you can tell from the above, I find the fandom of these films problematic.
Probably the films themselves.
They're a special case.
You really can't lump them with Star Wars, and James Bond.
I tried to to be appeasing and compromising, but you really can't eat the big shit sandwich for negative peace. Assholes won't let you.
I keep having to re-learn this lesson all my goddamned life.
The whole MAGA-cop, NRA, Tom Jane of it all is probably why Punisher is dead in "Deadpool & Wolverine". Ooops, spoilers. 😏
"But..but...Deadpool is lethal!!".
And he's a comedian in a satire.
Marvel had a parody mag called "What The!?!" and parody-Punisher was "The Pulverizer".
Deadpool movies are R rated Pulverizer.
MAGA assholes know better than to co-opt Deadpool, because Ryan Reynolds would humiliate the shit out of them.

So!! All of that laid out, why was I ever a fan of these?
I've never been an NRA guy, or a gun guy, or a really a war guy, and definitely never a Republican voter.
Why a fan then?
Catharsis.
I was a staunch believer in catharsis.
Because America, both political wings, is/are a staunch believer in catharsis.
And given that majority opinion, it's beaten into you. Hard!!
Right next to the fucking pledge of allegiance!
Right next to the fucking ABC song!
But catharsis is debunked, and it's shockingly easy to debunk.
If viewing violence delivers cathartic release, then committing violence should give even more release.
But committing violence doesn't give release.
And the easy debunk for that, is wife beaters, serial killers, and serial rapists.
If the one violent act did the trick, they'd never re-offend.
They re-offend like a muthafucka.
They have these places where you can pay to smash appliances and furniture with a sledge hammer to get out your frustrations.
You're more likely to give yourself a heart attack with that shit.
It's the opposite of calming.
Nope, meditation, mindfulness, cognitive behavioral therapy.
These get the poison out of your brain.
Punisher, Dirty Harry, Death Wish, that's just gonna raise your blood pressure at best, make you start a gun collection and start doomsday prepping at worst.
Then you play right into the hands of a very specific set of grifters.
So, that's the politics and philosophy of it all.
Why was I ever a fan of these as pieces of art?
Apart from the catharsis argument?
When looked at properly, in my opinion, the Punisher is a tragedy.
You're supposed to learn the lesson, that yeah, Frank Castle killing these bad guys may "clean up the streets" but it gives him mega PTSD, and places him outside of society, and takes away his ability to have a normal life.
There's no real Punisher, because no one would make that sacrifice.
And when you do get some incel with nothing to lose that shoots people up, it's never the mafia, or a terrorist cell, it's some girl who jilted him, and everyone else who gets in the way.
Or Kyle Rittenhouse.
Ain't no "good guys with guns" coming.
You're not supposed to go "yeah, the Punisher is all fucked up, but I wish someone would do it anyway".
That's the opposite thing you're supposed to take away.
But see, the VAAAAAAAST majority of motherfuckers don't take that in.
Me being the rare guy who gets it does fuck-all.
The blue-line-Punisher-skull motherfuckers are gonna keep right on MAGA-ing.
So, like with future Star Wars, fuck it, I'm out.
Like eating the negative peace shit sandwich to keep my TERF-y friends wasn't worth it, defending this goofy franchise is not worth it.
If I ever view these again, it will be to give MST3K commentary.
I can never take them at intended face value anymore.
That's been ruined for me.
Its probably a good thing.
