Franken-fest (Part 5)

And now, The Frankenstein Monster's history with comics.

As with Dracula, here's all of 'em at Comicvine.

As Frankenstein's Monster.

As Frankenstein.

And, like with the Dracula one, here's just a few standouts...

The Monster Of Frankenstein (1973)

A dead-on perfect adaptation of the novel!

I had the read-along record book version of this as a kid, and it was one of my all time favorite things ever.

The story is full-on grisly, the art beautiful, loved, loved, loved it!

Anyway, the first issue was the novel adaptation, then, they had The Monster get frozen to modern day, and mix it up with the heroes in a regular series like they did with Dracula.

The Frankenstein Dracula War (1995)

See here.

Can't vouch for if it's any good, but, it's gotta be better as a Drac n' Frank match-up than that 1971 abomination.

Army Of Darkness: Ash vs. The Classic Monsters (2007)

See here.

The one where The Monster chooses the name, Michael.

Michael...Frankenstein?

Hack/Slash/Eva (2011)

See here, and here.

Hack/Slash meet Eva (Daughter of Dracula), and, The Monster is there.

And, since Eva comes from "Ash Meets The Classic Monsters", then, it's Michael Frankenstein.

The Simpsons Futurama Crossover Crisis II
(2003)

See here and here.

Monster War (2005)

See here, and here.

Features The Darkness, who met Eva, who came from "Ash vs. The Classic Monsters", so, again, it's Michael Frankenstein.

And hey, Simpsons/Futurama co-exists with X-files, who met 30 Days Of Night, who crossed over with Infestation, who crossed with Danger Girl, who met Ash.

So, that Monster is Michael Frankenstein.

And...

Marvel's Frankenstein met Marvel's Dracula.

Who met Spiderman, who met Superman, who met The Darkness, who met Eva, who met Ash.

So, that's Michael Frankenstein.

And man, does Marvel love Michael Frankenstein.

Not only did he get his own regular series...

...they adapted the novel again in 1977....

...they published Berni Wrightson's illustrated edition of the novel in 1983....

..aaaand....

...Stan Lee's love of the Karloff film even inspired the Hulk!
Yep, s'true, said so himself.

So, no "Frankenstein", no Hulk, no Avengers.

Weird, huh?

Weirder, when you go all the way back, and think, no Mount Tambora eruption, no year long winter, no Frankenstein, no Hulk, no Avengers.

Born from a volcano, why, it's practically a comic book origin story, innit?

Ah, but DC actually did one better....

...they cut right to the chase, and made The Monster a superhero!

Hey, DC has crossed over with Marvel, and Dynamite, they oughtta snag Dynamite's name for him, and make it "Mike Frankenstein, Agent of S.H.A.D.E".

Now that sounds like a pulp novel inspired comic name!

Um...I'd like this to have a nice even number, so I need a 12th thing...

Ah, here we go...

Angel vs Frankenstein (2009)

So, along with "Spike vs Dracula", that's both monsters, and both of Buffy's little man-whores.

Get him, Mike Frankenstein! Beat him with his ripped off arms!
Fuggin' Boreanaz!
Agh!!

Ahem...

Up next, Mi..er, Frankenstein Monster related comedies.
