Meedyah Morsels #196.
Big delay between episodes 1-3 and 4-5, but we're finally here!
Previously with these crossovers-
Previously with this one-
Buildup to Crisis On Infinite Earths. (Compilation)
Now the review.
As an overall story, as good as Earth X, better than Elseworlds.
Earth X had more room to let the characters breathe, and more budget for more razzle-dazzle in the fight CGI, BUT, Crisis had an extra episode, and a lot of stuff crammed in, and those goodies were awesome.
So, it balances back out.
Elseworlds was only three episodes, and was pretty much a commercial/setup for this one.
I can't discuss anything else without full spoilers...so we're going full spoilers.
Bail out now if you haven't seen the episodes.
Spoilers-
All right, so the aftermath of the multiverse being blown up and rebooted is...
-The Earths of the Arrowverse are merged.
Supergirl and Black Lightning live on the same world as all the other heroes now.
This is really gonna mess with their shows, it'll be interesting to see how they write around it.
-The multiverse re-split from this merged Earth, leaving room for Titans, Doom Patrol, Stargirl, and the movies.
-Ezra Miller Flash showed up, so the DCEU is part of the multiverse, so all the movies and shows going backward and forward are in canon with each other. Meaning, I was right to review the last two crossovers in comparison to the DCEU, because they're linked into one canon now.
-Arrow and 90's Flash permanently died.
Okay, now here's all the cameos and guest appearances-
-Kingdom Come/Christopher Reeve/Brandon Routh Superman.
-Smallville Superman
-Smallville Lois
-Birds Of Prey Huntress
-Birds of Prey Barbara/Oracle (Dina Meyer, voice only).
-Alexander Knox from Batman '89
-Dick Grayson from Batman '66
-Lucifer
-The Titans
-Doom Patrol
-Derek Mears Swamp Thing
-Black Lightning
-Ezra Miller Flash
-John Wesley Shipp Flash
-Stargirl and her pals.
-Kevin Conroy as an evil dead-end Batman
-Jonah Hex
-Ryan Reynolds Green Lantern (we don't see his face, but we see scenery clips from the movie)
-Marv Wolfman
-Wil Wheaton
Rumored ones that didn't show-
-Lynda Carter
-Smallville Green Arrow
BUT....
If Brandon Routh can be Superman and Atom, and John Wesley Shipp can be Flash and Grant Gustin Flash's dad, then actor roles are dimensional duplicates! SO!
-Lynda Carter played the president on Supergirl, so her alter is Wonder Woman.
-Adrienne Barbeau was in the Derek Mears Swamp Thing series, and the 1982 Swamp Thing movie.
-Supergirl's mom is Helen Slater who played Supergirl in the 1984 movie.
-Supergirl's dad is Dean Cain from "Lois and Clark".
-Smallville is canon, and Smallville had everybody from Christopher Reeve Superman, and the first Christopher Reeve movie had Noel Neill as Lois's mom, who was from the George Reeves Superman show, and the Kirk Alyn serials.
-And Lois's dad was Kirk Alyn from the Kirk Alyn serials.
-Batman '89 is canon, which leads to Returns, Forever, and & Robin, and Forever and & Robin had cameos from Patrick Leahy, who popped up in an episode of Batman:TAS, as well as "The Dark Knight", "The Dark Knight Rises", and BvS.
So that splices the Nolan Batman trilogy in.
-Paul Reubens (Pee-Wee) was Penguin's dad in both "Batman Returns", and "Gotham".
-Kevin Conroy was in "Batman Beyond", with Sherman Howard as Blight, who was Lex Luthor in "Superboy".
-Joaquin Phoenix was in an episode of "Superboy", back when his name was Leaf Phoenix, and now he's Joker in "Joker".
-And finally, if all of the above, then certainly Stan Lee and Kevin Smith connect DC to Marvel.
Oh, and here's the Easter eggs that weren't full-on direct connections.
-A Watchmen poster on Lucifer's Earth.
- Routh-Superman mentions going crazy and fighting himself before.
This is a reference to Superman III.
-The base the Arrowverse heroes use at the end looks like the Hall Of Justice from Super-friends, and they play the Super-friends theme, and an open cage with "Gleek", on it is shown in the back of the storage area of the base, and we hear the noises Gleek used to make.
-Routh Superman does the Earth flyby with the wink from the Reeve movies.
-Supergirl says "up, up, and away!", from the Superman cartoons.
So, there you go, DC merged their whole goddamned multiverse.
They fucking did it.
And it was wonderful.
A true pop-culture milestone.
