In "What? They're just trying to beat him up, right?", I told the "Raunchy Hulk", story.

Short version, in The Hulk issue #23, Banner almost gets anal raped by some mean gay guys at the YMCA, and he has a delayed transformation into the Hulk because of the shock trauma.

I concluded that it wasn't homophobic.

...sss....yeeaahhh...it's homophobic.

I don't think it set out to be, Jim Shooter claims this is something that really happened to a friend of his, but...making one of the gay villains a lisping stereotype?
Yeah....it's not a good look.

Marvel always strove to be socially progressive in its values, but they dropped the ball sometimes.

This wasn't a shining moment.
But, it's still a fascinating piece of history.
And an amusing childhood memory revolving around reading this thing.

Anyoo, I thought that needed a quick revisit.
