All right, I made a bunch of predictions my past-self thought I'd go back to, so let's go back to them.
I think it would have been fresher in my mind if the flick didn't get delayed 18 fucking months.
Thanks, Trump and covid.
Ghost Egon?
Yes.
Egon dying on a last case that breaks up the team?
Nope.
Breakup first, then Egon dies just before his family shows up for the main action of the film.
Tear jerky moments?
Yes.
Especially ghost-Egon.
The footage Jason Reitman was digging out of the salt mines?
An extended clip of Janine talking to Egon before he goes into Dana's building for the final showdown that pays off in a flash-forward to present day.
Plus, alternate clips of the Busters walking down Time's Square for fake news footage on Youtube.
None of it was CG-ed into something new.
Straight ahead flashbacks to lost scenes.
Okay, the Shandor mine.
Yes, to all of that, they hammer it home pretty decisively that the mine is the source of Dana's apartment's selenium, and that the mine itself is Shandor's apocalypse backup plan.
Gozer's incarnation?
The sexy girl form (played by Olivia Wilde), plus mini-pufts.
Muncher.
Yep, he was a matter muncher (he can also expel eaten metal as shrapnel bullets), and he was our lead ghost, and first busted ghost.
And he was instead of Slimer.
Slimer is a New York ghost.
Ecto-1A getting downgraded back to the Ecto-1?
No mention, but Jason Reitman says this has an answer, and we might see it in the next one.
Janine being grandma?
Nope.
They go out of their way to avoid who grandma really is, but Janine stuck around as a family friend taking care of Egon's finances, and we get a feeling like she still carried a torch.
Maybe they hooked up, maybe they didn't.
They deliberately leave it murky.
They go out of their way to hide who Phoebe and Trevor's dad are too, but he sounds like some random forgettable jerk who didn't stick around.
Unless they want to surprise us, and have it be Oscar in the next one.
But if it's Oscar, then Oscar is a jerk.
Liking Afterlife better than Answer The Call?
Yes.
So, how'd I do?
60-40.
Where I was wrong, I was still in the ballpark.
Not bad.
