So, Alien...(part 2)

Part 1.

Dammit, Disney, you pulled me back in.

So, Romulus came to basic cable, and...it's all right.
Just like I'd heard.
Even though the franchise chugged steadily along through the 90's, 00's, and 10's, "Romulus" feels like a cryo-frozen legacy sequel to the first "Alien".
"Aliens" we get Ripley's fate; "Romulus" we see what happens to the Xeno shot out into space.
It's a nice grossout roller-coaster. Okay for what it is.

But the real surprise treat for Alien-franchise fans is "Alien: Earth".
This is the real continuation.
Even though it's a prequel.

Noah Hawley fleshes the Alien world out into the full horror of corporate oligarchy that the movies only hinted at.
The perfect sci-fi allegory to our fashy times.

They come right out that Democracy died, and the corps run everything outright.
Just like the world Elon Musk wants to inflict on us.

The only jobs anymore are space-trucker, miner, and soldier.
And, I guess, paper pusher.
It's be one of those, or goddamned die.
Just like the world Elon Musk wants to inflict on us.

And Heaven forbid you need cybernetic parts, or you're owned forever.
Just like the world Elon Musk wants to inflict on us.

And I haven't even touched on The Hybrids who are the real stars of the thing.
Just watch the show. You'll see.

So!! Yeah!! "Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes" "Prey" "Deadpool & Wolverine" and now "Romulus" and "Earth".

I'd say Disney has done right by their Fox stuff.
The Disney-haters can go eat some crow pot pie now.

I'm still not gonna buy "Romulus" on disk, but I'm gonna have to give serious thought to maybe getting "Earth" when it comes out.

Romulus was nice enough to watch once in theaters. I guess it was generally disapproved of that they CGI-surrected Ian Holm, but the bit where the spaceship was crashing into those rings that we saw around the planet in the credits of the original 1979 film was pretty nice.

Obviously I'd rather watch it than the two Ridley Scott movies we got in the last 15 years, the first of which is mostly hated, and the second of which barely anybody talked about at all!!!!
