Read/watched these during "Lovecraft Country" cuz they were quickies.
Putting them after. Could have just lied by omission, and pretend I just did 'em. Nah.
Anyway, here they are.
Batman: The Doom That Came To Gotham (2016)
Batman: The Doom That Came To Gotham (2023)
Elseworld 1920's Batman vs Lovecraft-verse!
Over-simplification.
It's really more of a mashup-verse that isn't all the way Batman or Lovecraft.
Lovecraft characters become Batman characters, and vice versa.
Killer Croc is a mer-man from "The Shadow Over Innsmouth".
Mister Freeze is ice-zombie-guy from "Cool Air".
Ra's al Ghul is Abdul Alhazred.
And so on.....
Loved it.
Batman and Lovecraft went together like chocolate and peanut butter.
It starts out in the Antarctic expedition from "Mountains Of Madness" which kind of weaves it into the Pym-verse, and that made me hop up and down with joy.
Overall plot: it's your standard "find out about the mysterious cult, and oh shit, their monster-God is real!" formula from "Call Of Cthulhu" with the death of Bruce Wayne's parents being part of the conspiracy.
I can imagine enjoying it by itself, but reading Lovecraft to know the layout and flavor of his universe, and catching every reference and Easter egg, it makes it soooooo much better.
One should read "Mountains" and "Cthulhu" at a bare minimum.
And it didn't have a happy ending. It was dark bittersweet.
Lovecraftian.
The book is a total straight ahead butt-kiss to Lovecraft, while the movie gender and race swaps some characters, thus making it a rebuttal-quel.
The filmmakers had to know what they were doing. ๐คจ๐
I can hear the CHUDs screaming. ๐
Good. Fuck 'em.
Batman fought the Klan. Batman fought Hitler. Batman's not full-blown "woke" but he ain't a fascist.
Unless Frank Miller writes him; but Frank Miller-verse can go fuck off into an Elseworld, and be walled up with a cask of Amontillado.
Tim Russ is in the movie version as Lucius Fox.
Tim Russ recently pissed on Charlie Kirk's grave, and the comic-CHUDs were crying.
I don't blame him for hating Kirk. Kirk said shit about black people that wasn't even dog whistles.
Kirk peddled the same exact shit as David Duke, but coated it with a veneer of respectability.
I see so-called fucking liberals falling for it. Fuck them too.
But, I've ranted down the rabbit hole about superheroes starting leftist, and being stolen from us by fascists.
Die angry, CHUDs.
Batman hates you.
Go away.
Anyway!
Next: Helen's Story, and more Arthur Machen.
