Outlander/Star Trek update.

Last time, I said....

Next up... there's an Outlander graphic novel I want to add to the collection.
And, I finally need to get season 1 of Strange New Worlds on disk.
So, stay tuned for those!

Well, here we go!
Got these Monday (5/1/23).

The Exile (2010)

There, I have all the Outlander content that isn't the original books themselves.
Damn, it's an arm wrestling match to track a copy of this sucker down these days.
Got it cheap though.

Wow, this dropped 4 years before the show started.
That makes this the first (official) visual depictions of the characters.

Everyone looks pretty different, but not so radically different you can't figure out who's who.
Especially from word balloons.

Diana Gabaldon's introduction explains that she got started writing for Disney comics, so when Outlander took off, she kept her feelers out for a graphic novel project.
And boom, here it is.

In her afterward/behind the scenes, she's very meticulous over how Jaime should look, and she was pretty definite on no cleft chin.
I chortled then, cuz Sam Heughan has a cleft.
He's basically Scottish He-Man.
Book Jaime looks like a cross between young Kurt Russell, and young Harrison Ford.
IMO. YMMV.

Anyway, to the plot.
This happens during book/season 1 from a different perspective with different scenes and sub-plots.

The titular Exile is Jaime. The Outlander is Claire.
And, if anyone considers those details spoilers, get a fucking grip.
Then Ghostbusters is a spoiler.
Guardians Of The Galaxy is a spoiler.
Star Wars is a spoiler.

Anyhoo!
You get to literally see (as opposed to imagining from text) the changes the show made to costuming, setting, set dressing, etc.
Interesting piece of Outlander history.
Glad I collected it.
Wish there had been more of these.

Well, season 6 has animated mini-sodes, so that kinda dips into the same territory.

Someday, I'll collect the novels.
It'll be awhile though.
Stay tuned.

Strange New Worlds (2022)

Observations/discoveries this time through-

-Jess Bush's Chapel is wacky to the point of being borderline good-guy Harley Quinn...and I'm there for it.
-Pretty sure I have a big time crush on Ortegas.
-Let's get real, Jesse James Keitel makes transphobe's pee-pees move, and then they cry, and call the police, and the police laugh.
-The Blu-Ray has TOS's "Balance OF Terror" to compare to "A Quality Of Mercy" which is goddamned awesome.

And yep, still the best of the NuTrek shows.
Well....kind of tied with Lower Decks, actually.
IMHO. YMMV.
Speaking of that, ST:LD season 3 is my next one to get.
Stay tuned.
