After watching that last trailer for "Batman v. Superman" I'm suddenly very scared that Jesse Eisenberg is going to give one of the worst, most painfully over-the-top performances in the history of cinema.

ReplyDeleteFirst non-spoilers SW:TFA reviews are in, and the consensus seems to be way better than the prequels, not as magical as the originals, but still awesome.
The shit Eisenberg was doing in that last BvS trailer looked ten times goofier than the Jim Carrey Riddler. More like, "Nicolas Cage in 'Face/Off.'" And cripes, I haven't even had a single thing against Eisenberg before now, he was just fine playing "Mark Zuckerberg"!
ReplyDeleteOh, I only read the Ebert site review (whoever wrote it) so far, and I didn't know the plot to this thing was going to echo ANH that much....seems like there's a LOT of similarities.
A co-worker of mine made a joke today that he'd already seen the movie and that the last 15 minutes were just Harrison Ford pulling his pants down in front of a stationary camera and holding his asshole open, not even moving.
I will state that I don't think Abrams has made any bad films yet, though I didn't watch any of his TV shows (yet).

ReplyDeleteOkay, here's my geeky theory of how the Hasbro Cinematic Universe will come together.
In "Transformers: The First Knight", they go back in time to medieval times, and meet Merlin.
Somehow, they bring Merlin back with them. This sets it up for Visionaries.
Merlin turns some soldiers, possibly G.I.Joes, into knights, and gives them magical items, and bam, Visionaries.
Meanwhile, G.I. Joe reverse engineers some dead Transformers from previous films, unlocks transforming, but can't create the life spark, so they make Transformers that require human pilots.
This sub-division of G.I. Joe becomes MASK.
Somehow, the Transformers all-spark animates a spare suit of Visionaries armor, maybe even Arthur's armor, and bam, there's ROM.
The all-spark puts souls into some experimental nanites, and bam, there's the Micronauts.
And there you go.
You do the big team-up movie, and Bob's your uncle.
Oh, shit, yeah, G.I. Joe-verse has nanites, cuz they're what mutated Cobra Commander and Destro.
So, there you go.

ReplyDeleteMy not-so-quickie review of "Ai Tenchi Muyo".
Meh.
Lot of slow stupid slapstick filler before it finally got to down to the plot in the last hour or so. When it DID get to the plot, it was good, BUT, it was still structurally a rehash of "Daughter Of Darkness", and "Tenchi Muyo In Love".
As an overall Tenchi story, wavey hand.
Living up to the legacy of the OVA, meh.
As a worthy celebration of 20 years of this series...*broompt!!*
Still, it's a helluva lot better than "Tenchi In Tokyo".
That will always be the worst Tenchi ever.
Glad I saw it, but I'll never watch it again, and for me, Tenchi ended at "Tenchi Forever".
It would take something incredible for me to get back into it as the full-blown fan I used to be, and they're never going to do an incredible show.
They can't.
The formula is handcuffs.
The characters will never grow, Tenchi will never fuck Ryoko, their space babies will never conquer the galaxy, it's just going to be slapstick, anomaly plugged up by Washu, slapstick, villain shows up, repeat into infinity.
All the while, cock teasing us with the Tenchi/Ryoko relationship.
Yawn.
So over it.
